Considered as one of the treasured films of classic Hollywood, the 1951 The Day the Earth Stood Still is about an alien named Klaatu that landed on Earth to warn world leaders about the impending destruction that other extraterrestrial inhabitants are planning. This alarming plan is to secure their own safety from the universal destruction that humanity are unaware of that they are doing particularly the violence and production of weaponry. In the events that transpired throughout the film with the help of other people, Helen and Bobby, Klaatu believes that the humanity can change their ways but warned the chosen scientists that if the violence brought by human would reach again the universe, the alien robots will destroy the Earth.
Film Message. The apparent theme of the film is world peace. That is the core message of Klaatu as well. The message implies that the violence of human is severe enough that is alarming to our neighboring planets. Politically, it criticizes the production weaponry and other warfare as it provokes war.
Technicals. When the The Day the Earth Stood Still, a science-fiction and apocalyptic film, was first shown during on the cinema, the audience were held captivated with its visual effects. That is according to some reviews; critics then described it as "visually stunning." Perhaps considering the limited resources for visual effects compared to our time, the production was able to come up with visually convincing setting and background that blended well with its cinematography. Although the justification of an alien that can speak English language was overlooked, the screenwriting is delivered fluidly.
