Free Movie Review On The Flower Girl

The Flower Girl was an inspirational movie released in 1972, in North Korea. This movie received considerable appreciation and was turned into a book, and the leading actresses face was found on the North Korean bank note for quite some time, due to the extreme success.
I believe that almost every scene in the movie is placed perfectly to depict sadness, and induce a feeling of pity for antagonist named Kim Il-Sung, referred to as the flower girl. She belongs to a low-class family, facing a financial crisis and consisting of an ill mother and her blind sister. Every day she picks flowers from mountain to sell them to the antagonist, the landlord, who her mother is indebted to. The scenes where she is visible picking flowers in harsh terrain and then selling them off to make money, makes one feel sorrowful. The absence of a male dominated figure and how women are subject to discrimination are highlighted through these scenes. She faces the heavy burden of ensuring that life passes by without them being hungry. Extreme poverty and deprivation make one subject to being ruled over by landlords, like in the feudal system and that is conveyed through these scenes. Despite her hard work to earn for her mother’s food and medicines, she returns home to discover her mother has already passed away. This tragic moment reaches out to the soul and makes one feel guilty as if they are responsible for the plight the flower girl is facing.
The landlord frequently harasses Kim, but yet she is strong and brave in the face of adversity. In one scene she realizes that her sister is trying to earn a living by singing in the streets for money. Kim is rather outraged, and this gives life to the fact that she is selfless; not wanting any member of her family to face the burden of earning and takes full responsibility.
The cruelty and torture the higher class mete out upon the lower is show beautifully, when the landlord in his short-mindedness assumes that the flower girl’s blind sister is possessed by the spirit of her dead mother and therefore, calls for her to be buried to death in the snow. When Kim inquires she is chained up and this is representative of the fact that freedom was inhibited and there was a complete shunning of will, by the higher class because of power reasons.
The flower girl’s struggle throughout the story is inspiring to say the least. Constant deprivation is a major theme and it’s handled very well until the end. This movie is far from the typical sad tales everyone hears about, and is only for those who can bear to see hardships and manage to make it unscathed. Faint-hearted people might not bear to see her struggle, as she spends most of her time weeping and being subject to pain and misery.
