Introduction
We have different types of music. The style has changed over time. Music also depends on the cultural setting where it is created and produced. It therefore changes with time as well as the cultural setting. Classical music has equally gone through some growth changes, from the aphoristic period after Erwartung and the return to the use of classical forms in Pierrot and Wozzeck. When considering the Schoenberg’s Berg’s, and Webern’s music, it is possible to see the development, trends and periods it has gone through.
The Medieval and Renaissance was the first period that was from 1150 to 1600. It began from learning places, which were based in the church, offering a religious ground. The first secular song was in the 12th century. There were rigid rules, Organum, which governed melody and rhythm. Later, there was much freedom especially with harmony and polyphony. Composers were mainly devoted to choral writing with few instrumental compositions.
The Classical Period Timeline Period was the next period from 1750 to 1830. The era was characterized by creation of various musical genres that forms a basis even for the future. The sonata form of instrumental composition was created in the particular period and has continued to be in use to date, as well as the development of symphony, trio, quartet and modern concerto which was an apex of expressive and structural purification.
The 1900s, which are referred to as the Post Great War years, has to be the most bewildering period. Here, composers have different views. It is typically a dilemma of the inter war period. They have used both opposing and contradicting years. It gives the listener a variety of music to listen to and they like what is interesting to them and listen to the musicians they tend to like.
For Vienna, there has been great civilization, ever since the classical period. There was development in opera style and theatre. There was also great improvement in the fields of architecture and arts. Economically, there was growth and development and civilians stopped surviving and engaged in productive economic activities. They were now able to participate in improving the economy as well.
Just like Vienna, in terms of architecture, literature, and arts, commonly referred to as classicism, they moved to a new style in Europe in the mid 18th century. Economically, the balance between availability and musicians’ quality has been altered. From the Baroque, there has been more new music and better performances bringing better income.
There are similarities and differences between the world this music came from, and our own world. Based on meaningfulness, the older music has more meaning compared to the new music. Older songs are also educative compared to the new music. On another note, most recent composers are driven by money and fame to be got from the music compared to the old music mostly based on message. Older songs also portray a variety of emotions compared to the new music which in most time is to please some intended audience. The similarity is that they are both harmonized and are quite entertaining.
Conclusion
The classical period shows that structural clarity is a general characteristic which is close to an obsession.
