I decided to take this class because I have always loved music and I was interested in getting a better understanding of the subject. I have been to a lot of concerts and I own a ton of music, but I have never taken the time to learn this much about the something that is a part of my daily life. Because I like music so much, I was familiar with some of the types of music discussed and know a little bit about music history.
I expected that this class wouldn’t have that much work because I didn’t realize how much there was to learn music. This class had more work than I thought there would be, but that’s okay because I learned a lot and the material and assignments were interesting. I also expected that this class would be more about learning to play music and recognize notes, but I like that it was a mix of various aspects of music. Looking back, I’m glad that this class wasn’t exactly what I expected.
The range of music that was discussed in this class was one of the best parts of the class. I learned about different kinds of music that I never would have listened to before. I think that’s one of the best parts about this class, learning to appreciate different kinds of music. I would have liked to spend more time on each different kind of music and I’d like to explore the history of the music and get a deeper understanding of the types of music that I was unfamiliar with.
In the beginning of class I was a little confused about the assignments and the grading process, but I understood it better as the class went on. Of course, I was hoping that I would get an “A” in this class.
I think that the teacher did a good job teaching the subject and communicating expectations. One of my favorite parts of this class was the teacher’s involvement with the subject. I could tell that the teacher really enjoys all aspect of music. The instructors love of music really came through in the teaching, the choice if class material, and in the assignments.
I think that removing some of the assignments and creating more hands-on class time experience could improve this class.
While taking this class I learned about a wide range of music. As I said before, I was exposed to many different musical experiences that would have never been a part of my life. Aside from the actual course subjects, learning about other types of music taught me that I should branch out more and explore different things because I’ll never know what I might like. Maybe I should try new and different kinds of food or travel to places I never would have considered traveling to before.
Music has always been an interest of mine and an important part of my life. This class has given me a deeper understanding of music. Even though I love music, I never would have taken the time to learn about it unless I took like this one.
