I have had good experiences with the English classes in the past. This is because I have been taking writing classes which has helped me in writing well as this is one of the areas I enjoy most. To achieve this I make sure that writing is part of me. I write everyday because by so doing I am practising this skill which is a muscle and it can only be strengthen and nourished with the right training.
I have been joining many critique groups and I have also been critiquing the work of other authors as they do so to my work including the negatives. I also enjoy reading. I read daily other works to get more ideas while writing. By reading I get to know different styles, the authors and also genres that will benefit me enormously. I have learnt that by doing so I will be able to recognize and also appreciate good writing (Johnson, 1994). I also believe in truism by the time I have written a million words I am about as good as I am going to be.
My strength as a writer is that I have the ability to come up with the streams of ideas that can flow quickly from one idea to the other. In this I am not too short on the page requirement. Many times I write overly fancy sentences but am able to use transitions correctly. I use delightfully descriptive language by spicing up my sentences to make the reader curious. I make interesting observation about topics which are interesting and I also present my ideas in an articulate way.
The skills that I would like to improve are my vocabulary and also the way in which I express my thoughts. I feel I should take a piece of a written material and start reading it. While reading I should keep underlining the new words. I should also have a good dictionary and pull up the thesaurus. I should also write the synonyms of the new words. Finally, I should construct sentences using all the words the original and the synonyms. If I follow this I know that I will improve my writing skills and be an excellent writer in the future.
