In the Nature vs. Nurture debate, it only makes sense to believe that the complexity of life is explained by both forces that work together intricately to form the human soul (Pinker). We are made of genes that are interwoven into chromosomes that exist in every cell within our body. Nature has given every cell a code on how to exist and function. Likewise, nurture is found in the form of experience, as how we grow and exist determines our personalities. For example, nature is found within society on how children grow and develop. Children from all across the world that live in different cultures grow and develop the same way. Children meet certain milestones at certain ages before they progress through each stage. Additionally, two children from two different upbringings can develop to become two different adults. A child from a poor upbringing might continue the cycle, never better himself, and raise his children in the same way. A child from a better upbringing may continue the path to becoming a successful adult and raise his children in the same way. However, there are also stories of children from poor upbringings who develop in different ways; one becomes a successful adult while the other continues to struggle as an adult. I believe we must believe that both forces coincide.
Experts in psychology and growth and development would be most interested in studying the forces and participating in the debate. Psychologists have always been interested while individuals who specialize in the development of children often counsel parents on how genes, as well as environment can have an impact on a child’s development. Using the aforementioned example, criminal specialists often look at individual’s genes as well as their home environment growing up to decipher what drives individuals to act unjustly in society.
This could impact our society by absolving existing biases for both forces. Individuals will no longer blame genes for how a person acts and behaves or the environment for how a child develops into an adult.
