Mayor Thomas Hillman of Anaheim was arrested last night on suspicion of DUI and felony possession of cocaine.
According to a statement released by the Buena Park Police Department, police officers decided to stop a 2011 Mercedes CLS after it was observed to be weaving erratically on the road at approximately 11:30 last night. The driver, who was later identified as Mayor Hillman, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, and it was confirmed after a sobriety test was performed. With the mayor’s consent, the officers also searched the car and found two grams of cocaine.
The police report also revealed that the Mayor was with a young woman during the time of arrest. Although the minor was charged for public intoxication, she was later released to the custody of her parents. Due to her age, her identity remains confidential. Also, her relationship with the mayor has not been confirmed yet.
Mayor Hillman still remains in custody at the Orange County jail. According to Ryan Nguyen, the mayor’s spokesman, “the mayor is willing to face the consequences of his actions, but at this point he is not admitting to any of these criminal chargesRemember, in our system of justice everyone is innocent until proven guilty.” No information has been released yet about how long the mayor will stay in jail and when he will be back at his office.
