In the story The Crucible, the blame for the circumstances can be designated not just to one person but many other characters in the story. First, the blame can be assigned to Abigail Williams, along with her friends. Reverend Hale and Revered Parris likewise share accountability for the countless deaths due to witch trials.
The problem in Salem starts when the Abigail persuaded her companions to shift focus from their midnight activities in the woods. To accomplish this, allegations of witchcraft are created in opposition to other people. These allegations are simply made up stories. The accountability for the made up stories lies upon Abigail and her companions. Nonetheless, it is at that juncture in the story in which the accountability transfers to the adult individuals in the Salem Community. Rather than paying attention to the evaluation of the claims created by the terrified girls, Parris and Hale opted to believe the stories to be true. In considering the lies that the girls made without cynicism, the mistake is accountability on the part of the leaders and adult people in the community. In addition, it is the authorized court that transfers the sentences and verdicts civilians to death. Such court is embodied by Danforth who is accountable for the misfortune of wrongful allegations meted out in retribution for crimes that never took place at all.
In this manner, it can be said that the girls’ allegations tip the dominoes that lead to tragedy; however, they are not the only ones to be blamed. The responses of the community show how this story can be rooted out of the framework and how people can easily blame others for a crime.
