The Best Method for the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile crimes are some of the main challenges that face many justice systems across the globe. Sometimes courts find it hard to find a clear definition of juvenile offenders and how to deal with their criminality. Traditionally, punishment and rehabilitation approaches were being used to prevent juvenile delinquency (Dammer & Albanese, 2013). However, the two methods have proved to be ineffective, and now new prevention strategies are being used to prevent juvenile crimes, which are now common. Some of the methods that are currently being used include community service, home curfew, counseling, and mediation. Nevertheless, according to my view, counseling is the best method that can be used to prevent juvenile delinquency effectively due to many reasons.
Beliefs, values, and attitude are the main factors that influence how human beings think and perceive their problems (Dammer & Albanese, 2013). The factors can also interfere with the way an individual views reality and how they interact with other people. Therefore, in many cases, it is the distorted thinking and perception that make young people engage in criminal behaviors. However, cognitive behavioral counseling can be used to restructure a distorted thing together with the perception among juveniles. Therefore, counseling can significantly help juveniles to change their unproductive and detrimental attitudes, beliefs, and values.
Also, counseling can be used to address some problems that are associated with juvenile criminal behaviors. Some juvenile engage in criminal activities due to social problems that they face at home and learning institutions (Dammer & Albanese, 2013). Counseling is the best method to solve some of the social problems that people face in the society, which makes it the best method that can work to prevent juvenile delinquency.
