The debate about whether organic food is better than conventionally grown foods has been a questions asked by many people. Organic foods are known to be a healthy option and it is recommended by doctors, dietary and fitness experts. Organic foods do not have any special nutrients in them that conventionally grown foods do not have, rather organic foods are seen to be better because of the farming practices and the way that the foods are grown. Farmers of who grow organic products use different farming practices which that allows their foods to grow at their natural rate and time without the use of any chemicals that will allow the crop to grow faster, bigger or any other modifications that affects the crops natural state. I therefore support the argument that people should consume organic food instead of conventionally grown foods.
First, organic foods do not contain pesticides and food additives. Conventional farmers use pesticides when growing their crops. Many farmers use pesticides to avoid pests from attacking their crops. The use of pesticides helps reduce bacteria and other diseases but when farmers spray pesticides on their crops there some residues that remain on the on the food. Organic farmers use insect traps to prevent or beneficial microorganisms to control pests and insects from attacking their crops. The use of microorganisms prevents the spraying of pesticides and it’s residues on crop. Also, organic foods ban the use of foods additives. Food additives such as sweeteners, coloring and flavoring are added to foods during processing. Organic regulations ban the use of foods additives on their crops because it does not support their purpose. This is a reason why people should choose organic foods instead of conventionally grown foods.
Secondly, organic farmers feed their livestock with natural diet and their livestock farming is wildlife friendly. Organic livestock farmers use natural diet to feed their livestock to ensure that they grow naturally and maturely before consuming. Conventional farmers use antibiotics and hormones in their animal food to help the animals grow faster for consumption. Antibiotics and hormones affect the health of the animal and its consumers. Also, conventional farmers raise animals in poor and unhygienic conditions and the animals are treated inhumanely. Organic farmers raise their animals naturally and humanely to ensure that the animals are in good conditions in terms of health and environment. Organic farmers raise their animals close to wildlife areas compared to conventional farmers. Many organic farmers own acres of land and pasture that gives the animals room to roam and feed, and feel the presence of their natural habitat. Conventional farmers do not have man acres so animals are crowded in small spaces. This makes the animals obese because there don’t have enough space to move around and exercise. Conventional farmers raise immature and unhealthy animals to meet human consumption needs. Organic farmers use natural diet to feed their animals without the use of antibiotics and hormones to allow the animals to grow naturally. This another reason why people should choose organic food instead of conventionally grown foods.
Finally, choosing organic foods is a way to support local farmers and organic foods have more nutrients compared to conventionally grown foods. Many farmers of organic foods are local individual or family owned farms. This is because in some places organic farming is just like subsistent farming; it cannot be done on a large scale in some places. Many people choose organic food to support local farmers or to support farmers in developing countries. Many people choose to buy organic foods because they support environmental cause by using renewable resources. People are environmentally conscious and they like to buy from people who are growing foods using practices that are environmentally friendly. According to research, organic food taste better than conventionally grown foods because organic farmers do not use pesticides or hormones when growing crops and raising livestock. There is no special ingredient that makes organic food taste, but the difference is farming practices. Organic foods taste better because farmers allow the crops to grow naturally and maturely so that they contain the full nutrients.
Organic food is better than conventionally grown foods because there are of use of pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, food additives and the farming practices are environmentally friendly. Organic foods are grown using traditional farming practices and the farmers allows the microorganisms in the soil to provide nutrients to the crops. Also organic farmers raise their livestock in large acres of lands close to the wilderness to allow the animals to move and feel close to their natural habitat. Conventional farmers raise their animals in close spaces and the animals are given antibiotics and hormones to make them grow faster. Animals raised by conventional farmers are immature and a compared to animals raised organic farmers. Many organic farmers are local individuals or family owned farms who are committed in providing quality foods. Organic farmers cannot produce foods on a larger scale; they are just like subsistent farming. These are the reasons why I think people should choose organic foods instead of conventionally grown foods. Organic foods are filled with nutrients and they help protect the environment and support local farmers.
