This case study is about the Canine Corporations for Independence (CCI) which is a non-profit organization that provides assistance to physically or mentally disabled people through highly trained dogs. These Canine Companions provide ongoing support and partnership therefore improving the quality of life of disabled people. The Corporation works through fundraising, service clubs and donations. Canine dogs are given two week training after which they are matched with their human user to know that they work well with each other. CCI train four types of assistance teams namely service teams, skilled companion teams, facility teams, and hearing team. All of these teams helps in the training and contribute in helping disabled people. There are many CCI volunteers who are involved in raising and training puppies for this purpose. These puppies go everywhere with their owners like for groceries, restaurants, work etc. When their training period is completed they are handed over to the training center. Many of the people get attached to the dogs while raising them but they feel satisfied when they see smile on a disabled person’s face. Volunteerism is not limited to raising puppies but people can also visit these centers personally and donate money.
