Do you think Anselm succeeds in proving that God exists? Why or why not? Anselm is a famous philosopher who presented an argument about the existence of God. His argument is referred to as Anselm’s Ontological Argument. He defines faith as seeking understanding (Anselm and Webb). He says faith is expressed by the love for God and striving daily to do His will. In my opinion, Anselm succeeded in his prove that God existed. God exists because of the great things that exist, and all because of His power. Even if God does not existence, there must be something greater in power that controls the universe. In the hierarchy of being, God is on the top showing that he controls all the activities on earth (Anselm and Webb). All the power is attributed to Him. The general principles in the creation stories show that Lord made all things from nothing. They bring out the attributes of God, which are omnipotent, omniscient and immortal. Anselm says that the Bible proves that God indeed exists. It says that the one who does not believe in his heart that God exists are a fool (1903). Thus, the Bible has provided the final answer about the existence of God. The ontological argument states that we can deduce the existence of God from the definition of God. God is a supreme being and when one hears the name God mentioned he/she trusts that a supreme being exists (1903). We cannot argue about the existence of God because by trying to bring the issue on bound it is true that God exists. In conclusion, everyone believes that there is existence of a supreme being that guides one in the daily activities. Saying that there is no God is acting foolishly because you already believe and know inside your heart that there is existence of a supreme being.
