Paraphrasing is one of the most important aspects of scholarly writing. Without paraphrasing, most of the articles will be mere duplication of other people ideas and the readers will have no interest in most of the writings. Through paraphrasing, it is possible to transform one’s ideas into yours while acknowledging the original writer. Notably, many potential scholars fail to practice the mannerism in academic writing leading to plagiarism. The aim of this paper is to paraphrase Patricia O’Conner’ paragraph and use the tools of Walden Writing Center to provide a discussion. In addition, the paper also provides a reflection on the most useful tools from Walden Writing Center and lessons from the paraphrasing exercise.

Effective writing is not about complex thinking and physical strain. The writer bears the blame for the lack of clarity and logic in the ideas expressed in any a piece of literature. The Turnitin has a wider database that produces original reports highlighting the original author and similarity index. Using these tools has enabled me to learn on the dynamics of writing. An alternative to the Grammarly and Turnitin tools is the Viper. Viper is an online software for checking plagiarism in academic writing. It also has proofreading services and marking services that help in correcting anomalies in texts to ensure originality. Viper provides side-by-side comparison of the text against a broad base of texts making it easier to identify the similar aspects. Effective writing involves clarity in ideas as it allows readers to appreciate the thoughts of the writer.
