Introduction
Introducing a change or a new method of operation could be met by workers either with a welcoming attitude, or resistance, and this affects the organization or company as a whole (Baker, 1989). However, the negative attitude can be worked on according to Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), whichis a theory that “predicts an individual's intention to engage in a behavior at a specific time and place” (Minnesota State University, n.d.; Boston University, 2016). “It posits that individual behavior is driven by behavior intentions, where behavior intentions are a function of three determinants: an individual’s attitude toward behavior, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control” (Banaji & Hepheitz, 2010, p. 350). Implementation of inventory management is one change that is brought upon the pharmacists, and how they are going to behave towards this new method is determined by their attitude.
Perceptions and Attitudes of Workers Towards Compliance with a Systematic Method of Operation
Since the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is a theory of deliberative behavior, is it safe to assume that the pharmacists will be able to handle inventory management efficiently? An employee can work on his attitude; he can make an effort to construct it because if he has the right attitude, he can work efficiently (Montano & Kasprzyk, 2008). “Attitudes determine for each individual what he will do”. (Schwarz, 2001). The pharmacists should be intentional in performing this inventory management task so that the goal of the company could be met (Ajzen & Fishbein, n.d., p.192). They are expected to work efficiently and effectively despite the odds and challenges.Admirably, some people are good at hiding their true feelings. This shows that we can rise above our (negative) situation and put on the right attitude. The TPB theory tells us that the best predictor of a behavior is one’s intention according to Long-Crowell (2016). Conner and Armitage (1998) said that the stronger the intention is, the more likely the behavior will be performed. Although there are negative factors affecting the workers’ job performance such as inadequate skills, (Subban, 2005) domestic problems, discontentment, and many others, they should develop the right kind of attitude because they are expected to do so not only because of monetary considerations, but also because the management saw potentials in them the moment they were hired. On the other hand,management has to motivate their employees sufficiently in order to achieve positive results, and should make an effort to convince them to work on their attitude, in order to behave accordingly.
