Even as people today are obsessed with their only inspiration of making a good fortune, by pursuing a career in business management, or in a fast-growing information technology industry, there are a few others that passionately care about the core of our existence - our physical and mental health. It goes without saying that health is a priceless asset and gift that no money can buy, and, as soon as I was mature enough to realize it, my future was determined - I was firmly resolved to dedicate my life to medicine and health care, but more particularly to Psychiatry. According to the latest statistics, 4 of 10 leading causes of disability in the developed countries involve mental illnesses, such as major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, among others.
Apart from being a top-ranked school in health sciences in the USA, the Bloomberg School of Public Health includes over fifty Research Centers and Institutes, with a comprehensive approach to the studies and research being conducted in the USA and 90 countries worldwide. Moreover, I have no doubt that these staggering educational opportunities open the doors to an impressive international psychiatric research and knowledge base, and will grant me the unique opportunity to collaborate on attractive projects back in Saudi Arabia.
I am strongly convinced that my solid previous education, along with my considerable work experience in mental health, can be an excellent starting point for studying at the Bloomberg School. After my full internship year, and due to my keen interest in teaching and research, I have an incentive to develop professionally, in order to become a competent academic. In fact, this determined aspiration made it possible for me to continue my education in the USA, where, with the regular guidance of my mentors, I was accepted for a highly competitive position of a junior faculty member in the Psychiatry Department at the King Abdul-Aziz University, and the high degree of my educational excellence ensured me a full scholarship to pursue my studies abroad. Undoubtedly, the Bloomberg School’s qualified and outstanding professors will set an exemplary model for me to follow throughout my academic career.
Most importantly, I believe that my skills, motives, educational and professional goals would be immensely helpful in pursuing my career aspirations. In the last few years, especially, while transitioning to the USA, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to do volunteer work and to meet people from diverse cultures and communities. My empathy and background allows me to fully understand their life experiences and their state of mind, thereby, this might be a beacon of psychiatry because it is impossible to help a patient, unless you fully understand what is going on in his head and in his soul, with a precondition, that you have a patient’s full trust in you - only then it is a win-win situation.
I am fully dedicated to my professional aspirations, and am prepared to make my endeavor in science. Although pursuing the career in Psychiatry is not an easy task to accomplish, I feel that my genuine interest in this field will never diminish. A cornerstone of mental health, Psychiatry has many professional questions that remain to be answered, and lots of areas explored, and I am excited about the prospect of being among those, who are going to seek and find those important answers. I am ready to face the challenges on my way, and help the humanity to productively conquer the present day mental illnesses.
