Personalized Ethical Decision-Making Model
In the field of practice, professionals are always tasked with making decisions on various activities. Therefore, there is a need to have a good decision-making model in mind. The decisions that are made by an individual in the human service field need to be relevant and appropriate to improve the quality of service that is offered. An ethical decision-making model is, therefore, relevant and of importance to a professional in the human service field (Newton, 2013). Designing a personalized decision-making model may not be comfortable to an individual because there are circumstances that will affect the professionals’ ethical decisions and standards. In my career as a day-care teacher, I intend to give the young children best of care so that they can grow up into better individuals in the society. Besides, I need to satisfy the requirements and standards that the parents of the kids have set in order to entrench a good relationship between the parents and me as a teacher. To have a successful career, I need to follow ethics that will enable me to work well in the ideal field of practice (Newton, 2013).
Ethical standards in the human service field
The moral standards that have been listed in the human ethical standards are necessary and have to be followed, in my career as a teacher in day-care; I find statements 4, 9 and 12 to be of help during my practice. These statements relate directly to the events that may emerge in the day-care practice field and need my attention. The safety of the children, quality of service basing on the kids and parents strengths and the complexity of the interaction between human beings will help me make quality ethical decisions (Verma, 2009).
Whenever I suspect that the kids are exposed to a threat and danger, my plan will be to ensure that the children are safe. Therefore, I will keenly supervise and manage all the activities that the kids engage. In addition, provide a keen attention to the requirements of the children. I will also establish a relationship with the kid's parents. This will not only give me the confidence in children but also give the kids' faith in me, which is the cornerstone for mutual relationships (Newton, 2013).
My clients will majorly be children and their parents. Ideally, clients have different strengths and weakness. As a professional, I will build on the strengths of my customers and use them to improve my practice. When a parent hands his or her child to me as a caregiver, I will look into the treatment that the parent accords his or her child while at home, then I will try to build on this treatment so as to make the child feel less impact on the change of environment. In addition, I will encourage the parents to improve on the areas I feel they are not working well in the bringing up of their child. By so doing, I will establish a strong relationship with the parents and therefore build on their strengths (Verma, 2009).
Since I am dealing with young children, many statements in the human service ethical standards may not hold because of the nature of my work. However, I will apply the logic that is brought out in the statements and offer the best of care to the young individuals (Verma, 2009).
I do not feel like I have ever violated any of the statements in the ethical standards of human service. It is my duty to ensure that the declarations and the moral requirements are followed to have a better field practice experience (Newton, 2013).
The Four Ethical Competencies
The four ethical competencies discuss the field observations and qualities that a professional need to have, although the qualities are not limited to only these four competencies (Verma, 2009).
As a professional, it is important to be aware of the legal and ethical foundation of the human service professional field as stated in the first competency statement. This will enable a professional to set boundaries between him/her and the clients (Newton, 2013).
In the second competency, a professional is required to understand the values and ideals that guide responsible human service practice. As a day-care practitioner, I will ensure that the quality of service I offer to the young kids is recommendable (Verma, 2009).
In statement three of the ethical competencies, I will apply the best of my knowledge in solving any cases that may arise among the children in the day-care institution. The approach I will employ on a situation will comply with the set legal and ethical values (Newton, 2013).
In the day-care field, some issues compete for attention among the kids. Applying the competency statement 4, I will look at the most important matters and attend to them keenly.
Ethical Principals Screen
The ethical principles screen as seen will help me in making decisions in situations that are more complex. The screen provides options that a practitioner such as day-care needs to infer in hard decision-making situations. In my field of practice, I will apply the screen once complex situations arise (Newton, 2013).
