I am writing this petition to appeal or request for permission to hand in my assignment after the assigned deadline for submission. There are a number of extenuating circumstances that I believe would warrant your office to grant my request as will be explained in the paragraphs that follow together with the reasons for my late submission.
Firstly, the reason I have had to submit my written assignment later than the scheduled time is because on four days before the deadline, my family and I got involved in a grisly accident on our way to the book stores to buy stationery and other books I would require for the assignment. My parents were also to escort me to the public library to do my research when the unfortunate incident that claimed the life of my father occurred. The accident and the events thereafter took a great toll on me and hence I had to take some time off the books to be with my siblings and family to arrange for my father’s send off. I also sustained serious injuries and had to be admitted in a hospital for two days and by this time, the deadline was already fast approaching, but being in hospital, I could not get myself together to contact you or the dean regarding the same. I have attached evidence of my medications and hospitalization to prove my claims.
Further to this, I believe that an exception should be granted to be concerning late submission of assignment because after the incident, I had to take some time to carry on with my research on the topic. Given the complexity of the research topic, I had to take some more time before I could complete my assignment and hand in in time before the deadline. Thus, given the circumstances, I strongly believe that any reasonable person would not have expected me to complete the assignment within such a short duration of time. Nevertheless, I am extremely sorry for failure to bring this inability to meet the deadline to your or another school official’s attention early enough prior to the deadline.
Moreover, given that I have been an industrious and honest student throughout my time at the university, coupled with the fact that I have never made such requests or handed in my assignments later than the assigned date; I believe an exception should be made for me under these circumstances. Additionally, I believe I have done an exemplary research on this topic and expect to earn good grades on it so I would be seriously be disadvantaged if I were required to take another topic or not to submit the assignment at all.
Lastly, I would like to state furthermore in my appeal to you to accept my petition on the basis that I still feel unwell and may not be at a position to do any assignment or attend school as was advised by my medical doctor who stated that I should stay at home for not less than three weeks before I resume school. Therefore, accepting submission, albeit late, will enable or give me enough time to study at home for my upcoming main exams.
