Art is the expression of the human soul. It contains genuine human emotion because it provides people with an outlet for their repress emotions. Even today, there are people who find expressing their true emotions difficult; I bet everyone in this room experienced it before. That is why most people result to art because they have a strong sense of freedom. In an art there are no restrictions, no one can tell you what not do? In an art it is important for everyone to keep an open mind because art is like a maze into the artists mind. Before we make fun of something, is it not fair to first look at the story behind the work? If you will a person’s story would it in not change the way you look at the person? The goes with art, in order to understand it deeply, we need to understand the story behind it.
I know that I can not force you to change your perception on this art, but I want you all to know that this is not just a mediocre work, this is history. It is the soul of the artist and the era where he belonged to. Although not all of us can understand what he wants to depict in this work, it is still important not to belittle the work just because of its visual appeal. Remember art is never about perfection, but it is about purity and sincerity of the human creativity. The work may not be appealing to you, but during their time it reflects a lot about their society. The work of Picasso spearheaded a revolution for the benefit of expression. After his work artists remove their shackles from the limiting restriction of art before.
This painting by Pablo Picasso is entitled Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. The painting is older than
You do you know that? It was painted in 1907. The painting is even considered as the most innovative painting ever since the work of Giotto. Did you know that this painting took nine months to complete? It led the way to the showcase of Picasso’s true brilliance. Picasso discovered the freedom of expression because of this painting and it made him break away from the traditional French influence, and he discovered his own path as an artist. The painting is a work of hard labor, because even before its completion, Picasso invested time and effort in doing sketches and studies as preparation (Edwards, Steve & Wood, 2004). The work portrays a sensitive issue up until now; it shows five nude prostitutes (Everdell, 1997). You see art can also be used to depict the current issues surrounding society. It is both vital in preserving the country’s history and cultural identity. The painting changed the face of art, because it serves as a starting point for modern art.
Reflection:
The painting may be difficult to understand at first, but with research and an open mind the deep message the artist if trying to share can be read. I also realized the power of expression, because of his astonishing way to express his emotions; Picasso was able to create timeless masterpieces that even today continue to awe people who lay their eyes in his canvases. I saw that painting and art takes time and patience. Also, Picasso’s work was subjected to many criticisms even in the past because of its deviation from what is practiced, but despite the disapproval of some people, he continued to paint and create works because he believes in freedom. Art, in general, is a powerful medium that is part of the rich history of countries. It serves as a bridge for the generation in order for the current generation to not forget the people before them. Without art, preservation of culture will be difficult because art serves as documentation of the past.
After researching and reading about the work of Pablo Picasso, I was amazed about the story behind the work. When I first saw it, I found it confusing because it depicts disoriented women figure. But as I learn more about the painting, I saw how deep the message of the masterpiece was. Picasso is truly a brilliant artist because of his ability to transcend message through his arts. The work is also the culmination of hard work on the part of Picasso, because he spent time thinking about the content of the work. Imagine he dedicated nine months of his life, crafting the art? I, myself have a difficult time concentrating on one task for a years, but he passionately created his work. I saw that an art is not about being drastic and impulsive, but it must be carefully thought. A work must be carefully thought off so that it will tap the interest of the people looking at it.
I look at art in a different light now, even if I do not understand the work, I know I have no right to make fun of the work, because in the process I am also making fun of the artist’s mind. People have differing opinion about art, but it is always important to keep in mind that no one must belittle the effort of other people because each work has its own story.
