Free Political Ideologies Essay Sample

The political ideologies present in Texas, like most states, localities, and towns in the United States, run the full range of the political spectrum from anarchist to fascist. However, the dominate political ideologies, that is to say those political ideologies that find the most support among the state population range from social liberal and progressives, on the left, to neo-conservatives and “tea party” conservative on the right. Based on the framework of American politics, what this means, practically speaking, is that most people in Texas are either members of the Democratic or Republican Parties with a growing number of people identifying themselves as neither a democrat or a republican but rather as an independent.
My own level of political engagement began when I was rather young, perhaps in middle school. To be sure, my political engagement was facilitated mainly through my family, most notably my parents, and to a lesser degree, my aunts and uncles. They identified themselves mainly as democrats generally, and social liberals, specifically. One or two of my relatives identified themselves as even more left-leaning social democrats. Accordingly, I myself, early own also identified as a democrat that was socially liberal. In other words, growing up I was more likely to support progressive and liberal issues such as a strong central government that is responsible for balancing life and society’s normally unbalanced areas such as providing welfare and government assistance for the more vulnerable groups of society, regulating private industry so that it does not take advantage of the employee, and decreasing or eliminating inequalities in society wherever they exist. Again, many of these early preferences were influenced by my family. As I have gotten older and been able to analyze and understand the political environment more clearly as well as develop my own ideas about what is “good politics’; my political ideology was shift more from a pure democrat to an independent. That is to say, while I generally continue to support and advocate for democratic, progressive and socially liberal policies, platforms and politicians, I am not rigidly locked into my support. Indeed, if a conservative platform is reasonable, makes senses and will achieve the results that I feel are worth achieving I can and will support that policy, platform or politician.
Currently, I have a very high level of interest in the political process. This is mainly due to the fact that this year is a presidential election year and political reporting, stories, and analysis are everywhere and easily accessible.
