Child Labor
The child labor issue exists in the whole world, both in industrialized and in developing countries. Experience has shown that child labor causes serious and sometimes irreversible damage to the physical and psycho-social development of children. Consequently, their primary socialization can be considered as complete one. Mostly children, who are getting involved into gob routine, are the representatives of vulnerable social groups, low-income families or single-parent families, both in the countryside and in the city.
In order to discuss this topic broadly, it is essential to focus on particular subfields as: culture of poverty, moral theories and sociology of labor. Moreover, it is essential to study practical courses and methods of gathering the information. Applied learning will include studying topical fields, associated with sociological themes and experiential studying will include more abstract themes, such as micro economics and globalization of poverty.
Thesis Proposal
There is couple of ideas, which could be used in MA thesis
Feminization of poverty. Females, eventually, cannot perceive particular occupations, because of glass ceiling and sticky floor, hence the kids from single parent families are supposed to look for the job, especially if they live only with mother. This could be studied by using only qualitative methods (especially ethnographical or autobiographical ones)
Child labor is rather philosophical problem rather than sociological. Consequently, it is essential to discuss moral theories (in this case, teleological and deontological), in order to find out, whether it is good or bad. This aim could be reached by quantitative methods, in particular, by getting the public opinion regarding child labor on a cross national basis thanks to the internet surveying.
Child labor is unacceptable because it cause serious, sometimes irreversible damage to the physical and psycho - social development of children and it is indeed necessary to study this issue deeply.
