Introduction
The essay is a proposal that will be used to seek for financial backing from a producer so that the play,” our town” will be acted to appear more solid and interesting to the audience. The aim of the play is to attract more viewers and this makes its production to be arranged in an orderly manner. When there is enough financial support, the play will be organized in a fantastic way and it will not need famous actors to draw large crowds where it will be stage managed. The play requires a pitch-perfect cast and as the director I am packed with insightful touches and I stand to ensure that the play is always in a good form despite the changes in the cast.
Play logline
In the early 20th century, New Hampshire town is exposed to gradual change. The residents grow up, marry each other, live and interact and in the end people die. Usual things in daily like milk delivery were done in each morning and people used to left their front door unlocked. The film portrays the life of two young neighbors, George and Emily.
Summary of the play
The Our Town production will correspond to the political challenges that were faced in Europe that eventually contributed to the rise of Second World War. The film reveals how the play was an escape from the international struggle and an evacuation to small town in America. Emily Webb and George Gibbs are the main characters featured in the film. Emily is the girl next door who is developing romantic affairs to a boy next door, Gibbs. Wally is her older sister, and she is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Webb. She lived a bright life but at the age of 26, everything turns sour when she died while delivering her second child. The play shows how Emily grows from a lovable kid to a reserved blind but her early death makes everything more heartbreaking.
On the other hand, George is a popular son of Mrs. Gibbs and Dr. Gibbs. He is an all American fair-haired boy who in some instances gets criticized by Emily. However, he accepts her criticism and vows to change his traits which speak out the quality of his character. His decision to go to agricultural school is puzzled due to the fact he is eager to marry Emily Webb. According to how he utilizes his allowance money, it is easier to notice that he is not the most financially endowed guy in the small town.
Status of the play
Our Town is set to be produced on stage daily most probably in community or school theaters. This will enable the play to deliver its large cast, simple set design and its themes depicting American life. The production team will include, Spalding Gray, Ann Miller, Roberta Maxwell and Frances Conroy which are expected to run on Broadway for over one hundred performances. The plays will also corporate symbols and motion pictures, and language aspects such as connotation and denotations, semantic, and functions of language among others.
Play budget
The below is a play budget that will assist in acquiring Developing funding. It consists of estimated amount of money required in post-production and stage production. The allocated amount is given in terms of United State dollars.
Fundraising strategies
The fundraising strategies include leveraging of the available resources, fishing in the both ponds and delegate responsibility. Leveraging resources will involve using what I have for the play to be able to capture more sponsor and support possible. I don’t have many volunteers or donors but I have few passionate fundamental supporters who are able to sufficiently finance my project if I show and hold their contribution. I will also ask my colleagues to send out fundraising notes to the respective rolodexes.
Fishing in both ponds involves dividing my sponsors or donors into two prospects; big pond containing individuals, foundation, organizations and businesses who issues big cheques. On the other hand, small ponds involve companies, people and organization that offer small cheques. Both categories of donors should be considered and weighed similarly because they are both important in fundraising. The best strategies are therefore appropriate when utilizing the support of these two categories in order to meet the budget of the play.
It is also the responsibility of the play delegates to be trustworthy and also trust the supporters when they are conducting fundraising. The representative therefore should be responsible for selling the original tickets to the public and try their best to eliminate imperfections on tickets to gain the customers loyalty. Since I am constrained by my budget, it is significant to test my strategies and use them in appropriate manner. I should therefore consider eliminating the strategies that are not effective and retain the effective ones.
The storyline of the play is deceptively very simple. It is a portrait of a small town life which is composed of bare-bones set and enlightenment about the location history of the town and talks about two people who falls in love and later they get married. The play does not require a lot of complicated decorations in the stage and it scenes requires well-furnished furniture that will constitute: a number of tables, chairs and other few objects. The play does not require a lot of resources since even when the actors are dining, mostly they use imaginary utensils and they consume imaginary food. The milkman when making deliveries from the horse-drawn cart, there is a need of clip-clops sounds that will convince the audience that the deliveries have been made as affording a horse and cart will cost a lot of money.
There are some sections in the play where when one will be required to look out through the upper window they will use a ladder. Therefore, the budget must include the funds that will be required to purchase the ladder. The play will be organized in a manner that will ensure the audience concentrates on the actors and the themes they present from the play. The stage manager is the one who will be charged with the responsibility to supervise how the tables and the chairs will be arranged on the stage and also the title of the play will be stacked on the wall. After the setting, the stage manager will be held responsible in introducing the play and its settings. A potential director will is the one required so that he can make everything appear appealing, attractive and perfect.
The director will ensure that the stage manager will be a smart person since he is the one who determines where the play will be perfectly presented or boring to the audience. There is a need of a stage manager who will act as a guider throughout the play. He will speak to the audience in a way that he will appear authoritative and informative. There will be the need for introduction of introduction of the ethnic section of the town, the polish town with catholic residents and the Protestants. The stage manager will require painted diagrams and pictures that will illustrate William Jennings house, Mrs. Gibbs garden and also Charles Webb house. The stage manager is a significant figure and will orchestrate the stage actions that will serve as a connector that will hold the scenes together.
The production of “our town” must respect the original intentions of Thornton wilder playwright’s. There will be the use of non-traditional casting and the use of sign language. As the producer you are kindly requested to allocate available funds that will provide a brilliant technical crew and a cast of great talents.
