The first verse is a plea to God. In the first verse the speaker dresses God directly and makes his plea to the creator. The speaker is of the opinion that the creation is rather extreme from the human being’s point of view. This is clearly visible in the second line of the first verse which says “let less happen.” This alludes to the fact that the speaker is of the opinion that a lot is happening in the world today, and human beings are unable to keep up with and handle the happenings in the world today. Thus, it is essential that the creator lessens the intensity of the world happenings so that human beings can be able to cope with the world in its entirety.
In the next verse the speaker gets rather specific on the nature of the changes that the creator should make in the world all in the best interest of man. In this part of the poem the speaker highlights the extremities of nature or in this context creation such as extremely large valleys and the lack of water in the land that just so happens to be arable. Thus, the speaker is pleading with God to make the planet more habitable for human beings by making valleys less deep and ensuring that there is adequate water in the land that is arable so that food can be produced. The speaker also asks God to hold back the glaciers so as to avoid calamities that accompany them.
In the next verse of the poem, the speaker is rather specific and wants all geographical features to adhere to a certain mean value as far as their vastness and extent are concerned. Thus, the speaker asks God to withdraw his grandeur from these aspects of nature which makes them, so life threatening.
