INTRODUCTION
Making the tough decision whether to go to graduate school or join the work force is a decision that does not come naturally to everyone. More often than not the circumstances in one’s life determine the outcome of this decision. Fortunately or unfortunately for some, this decision holds opportunities and doors which may or may not be in their favor. However, what the society expects from each and every student is excellence, and whichever way you achieve it, graduate school or not, is solely dependent on you. This presentation outlines why a student can still be successful by joining the workforce upon graduation.
SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF JOINING THE WORKFORCE INCLUDE:
Gaining more work experience: some fields prefer employees with vast work experience as opposed to academic transcripts. This is because some skills such as interpersonal and communication skills can only be achieved in the field and not in a lecture room.
Pursing one’s passion: taking up a profession with zeal increases the chances of success as the workflow comes naturally. It is at this point that one is able to identify their passion and go for it. Brilliant people such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs dropped out of college and pursued their passion resulting in million dollar empires.
Gaining a clear perspective on what to pursue: for most students, making a decision of which course to purse is a hard task and most of them end up doing what their parents decide. Joining the workforce however give a clear perspective on one’s strong points and it makes it easier to later on choose a course that is appropriate.
