Crossroads Drag-way.
Introduction
There is that one thing that excites and of course it's different from one person to another. Each second you are in the moment of such an event, your entire body is rocking with excitement. That thing to me I can proudly say is motorsports; rallying and drag racing and the very sound of its pronunciation induces a release of endorphins. I came across drag racing in movies, and the very epitome of its excitement hit me when I watched Fast and Furious. The well-customized vehicles, the incredible runway, the spectacular spectators and the roaring of the vehicle make drag racing event the haven of my leisure. That is particularly why Crossroads Drag-way event was an event I couldn't imagine missing, and I can tell you, every second I spent there was better than the preceding.
The Event
We arrived at the venue on time and welcomed by the incredible organization of the place. The place was beautiful, fully parked with excited human and energetic race-cars. Lacking an energetic vehicle made me a spectator and being a fan was the most surprising part of it. Talking about participation, I expected more young people to take part but the larger percentage of participants who were older and owned the strong cars wowed me. I admired that fact since the elderly took part in productive sports rather than being idle. I joined the many spectators as the event kicked off with remarks from the emcee who was dropping hilarious comments to break the ice, sent us into unending hysteria. Jack Harrington and Peter Dinging were my favorite racers since their races were always eccentric.. Funny enough and coincidentally their names reflected racing as were they were meant to be. 'Harrington' for someone who likes to be in a hurry hence speed must be his best friend, and Dinging sounded like 'dengine' which has engine in it; the heart of a vehicle; farfetched but right.
This was my very first time to attend an actual drag race event and through the experience I learned pretty much. I like Rally because they race in the desert and the tight roads with bumps and corners require professional maneuvering accompanied by focus and desire to win. Cooperation between the driver and his co-driver is needed to win the race. Drag racing differs from rallying in that there are only two vehicles in competition at a time while rallying involves several vehicles; hence, drag racing is more exciting to watch. The very thought that only one other competitor is against you gives you the thrill to strive and claim victory. Put yourself in the mind of a drag racer, he knows that he can either be the winner or the loser; there is no number two or three. When overtaken by the opponent, he becomes aggressive to regain his lead ergo, he rides wildly. When it comes to rallying, if a competitor is behind several others, he might as well give up and strive to maintain the current position; they can only do less. Even more exciting is the instantaneous spasms it creates because the race takes less time. However in both sports, the competitors have the same goal, which is winning.
The event proceeded considerably with the numerous participants fighting for glory and spectators enjoying their time to the fullest. The various refreshments available quenched our thirsts and whoever felt hungry had a wide range of desserts to buy. I witnessed many kinds of vehicles, some very huge others colorful, classic and gorgeous while others were immensely strong. For instance, there was this black Volkswagen that had a gigantic engine at the front that made it look quite ugly. The most exciting part was at its first race where the driver was so excited and eager to showcase his machine's magic. He heated up the engine energetically, and the immense power at its disposal launched the car five feet into the sky and later landing back heavily. In this predicament, he lost his control as the entire crowd of spectators got to their feet with ecstasy.
We cannot ignore the importance of safety in such a sport because, with immense speed, one is exposed to grave danger especially if the control is lost even for a split second. As expected, there were several minor accidents that occurred but they took care of them. The stadium though had an issue; there were empty spaces between the steps where spectators sit. Such voids are a potential danger to them especially kids as the move around, and they should address them. The organizers should fill in the gaps with seats and make the paths easier for maneuvering. The entire stadium should undergo renovation to cover up the loopholes and avoid future accidents from arising. The labelings of the tracks were also not visible enough, a probable explanation for the numerous minor accidents.
Final Remarks
Teamwork was very significant for the performance of the racers who cooperated with team members. This event had a significant impact on my life, and I would want to know more about it and maybe someday take part, not as a spectator but a participant, who knows. I study in the States as an international student, so such an event was new and otherworldly; had a fabulous time. Nevertheless, I would appreciate if more fun activities are brought to the event to suit people with different needs. Attending drag race event is a great way to spend my leisure, and I'm surely going to attend more of such event in the future as I travel around the country to quench my thirst for adventure.
