Project Management
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is a nationalized laboratory headed by the private contractors, situated in the United States of America. On the other hand, the Department of Energy (DOE) is a centralized agency that is held responsible for supervising the country’s technological and scientific laboratories.
Q1. Organizational Changes in BNL and DOE
The major difference between Brookhaven National Laboratory and Department of Energy is the difference in the operational techniques and purpose. BNL is supposed to invent nuclear components in its scientific activity laboratory, whereas, DOE is accountable to check the reliability and stability of the invented reactors.
The BNL had to face big challenges and crisis when the Department of Energy detected the leakage in the nuclear reactor. The scientist working at BNL tried to prove that the leakage is harmless to the environment and health of workers and the public, but the activists, celebrities’ protests against the laboratory convinced the DOE to take action against BNL. For this reason, the scientists understood that it is useless to convince the activists, so they plan to adopt the changes and implemented policies which are effective for the environment.
Q2. Management Skills
After studying the case study of BNL, it could be analyzed that it is incredibly important to organize the project in a way that is going to improve the efficiency of the company. For this reason, a project manager should proficiently manage to keep a healthy relationship with the authorized officials so they would not speak up against the company. The company should use the media to improve their image by showing in an advertisement that how effective and environment-friendly their product is (Worth, 2004). Similarly, the management team should keep an eye on the administration and governance to ensure the credibility of the project. The management team should also test the validity of machinery to ensure consistency and stability in the project. The organization should implement policies that publicly announce their strategies to protect the environment, as it will help the company in strengthening their bond with the customers, activists, and national organizations.
