Protocol for Diagnosis, Management, and Follow-Up Care of Growth and Development and Psychosocial Issues
When it comes to common growth and development and psychosocial issues that may potentially present in pediatric patients one should recognize possible dangers from first days in order to watch and treat them. As the example of implementing assessment and treatment options to children, one case study has been analyzed in this paper.
30-month-old child named Brian goes through different stages of growth and development at the same time. Both his mind and body change in order to satisfy the child psychosocial issues. The boy runs and walks independently and he is also able to button his pants. He uses one-word sentences and has a vocabulary up to ten words. Brian can be nervous and worried about something. When these cases occur, no one is able to calm him down. These temper tantrums are the most disputable sides of the boy`s development.
Despite all his attempts to create something beautiful – he builds towers of cubes and plays with different toys, the manifestations of emotions explosion may signify the cry for help. His parents may not be careful enough towards his desires and requirements relatively to various exercises. From the other side, the parents` removal from the room, where a child has a temper tantrum, may be the effective tool in calming him down, as this kind of approach becomes unsuccessful. If Brian has tantrums with violence expression, it may turn to a tragedy if not appealing to pediatrician for some prescriptions (Tantrums: Why They Happen and How to Handle them, 2016).
Children of such an age group may have some psychosocial issues, such as taciturnity and extraordinary excitement about their own health states. They may have problems of obesity because of inability to walk. Some may not be able to do it or to talk, while their bodies grow: the bones and teeth are growing, while the children`s minds stay the same, so there is no talking about the complete proper development of a child. The things can be the opposite – when children have extra developed thinking process, which can lead boys and girls to be too worried about their lives. Brian perceives and measures everything surrounding him with the specific points of view, but he may still be too narcissistic to live in such a real world. As a rule, children notice only their own desires ignoring prohibition from adults. To change such an attitude, the reasons for this definite behavior should be found. It can be done after having done some studies.
Considering the fact that epidemiology is the study of different health-related states, it is necessary to take the events under control. To manage it, various methods are used: analytical or descriptive studies and surveillance aimed to study the determinants and distribution of the issues. Brian seems to have no problems, but it will be better to provide different studies to his case for making certain of his proper development. Children at the age of 30 months have to be able to balance on feet and identify various colors. Their emotional state changes to better – they express curiosity towards everything in the world and become creative about painting or playing with toys. Their verbal skills begin to develop, so talking to them will only help in expanding the vocabulary.
The age-appropriate protocol for the diagnosis may provide the basics for recommendations for treatment. DSM-5 can help in determining the diagnosis by documenting the difficulties children have in some settings. The care provided should be based on reports from parents and teachers, who are involved in the child development (Implementing the Key Action Statements: An Algorithm and Explanation for Process of Care for the Evaluation, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Monitoring of ADHD in Children and Adolescents). The assessing of the children state includes valuation of emotional, physical and developmental conditions. The care management should depend on special needs and requirements of children, who have to be guided by parents and other people surrounding them. Follow-up care of different issues should repose in attention and following all the advices given by professionals. The follow-up care should include the methods of developing child`s abilities, to supplement his vocabulary and to fill his outlook with new things. Some special attention has to be put towards the thinking process and the body development, as those, who are not watched, develop slower, so their progress is less noticeable and takes a lot of time. Taking situation with Brian, the key to his temper tantrums has to be found; it may be the absence of attention or following wrong instructions given by professionals. The emotional state of the boy is on the edge of his abilities, if he feels extraordinary pressure. It has to be fixed as fast as possible in order to assure Brian`s proper development in future.
Culture state has a great impact to the care of patients, who influence the growth and development of psychosocial issues. Brian is under constant pressure from the environment – he follows one-step commands and expands his vocabulary by listening to the conversations of his parents. The boy is resistant to nighttime and feeding routines, but he has temper tantrums, which are likely to happen because of the stress he receives. The world is so big, and Brian has to learn how to be a part of it, but rapid changes of the whole environment scare him. The age-specific protocol for the diagnosis, follow-up care and the management will definitely help to develop durability to psychosocial issues. Modern social pattern of life makes children vulnerable towards changes, so it is necessary to provide them with support. Brian`s parents have to watch their child and help him with everything he experiences.
This way, the protocol for diagnosis, management and follow-up care of growth and development of psychosocial issue has been compiled, as the main requirement is to support to the child in any of his beginning. Different tests have to be held in order to check the boy`s health state. Emotional breakdowns must be avoided and excluded from the list of possible outcomes occurring along with psychosocial issues. Brian has to be watched, and his health state should be under constant supervision. Even though there are no evidences for being worried, it will certainly be better to check his state.
