INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY
1. What factors must be considered when implementing an innovative technology internally?
Technical knowhow of the human resource- it is significant to determine whether the staff is conversant and also competent with innovative technology that is to be implemented.
Training and development- one should determine whether employees will need the training to use the technology and if so, who will provide it.
Resources- the company should make a determination of whether it has all the resources necessary for the implementation of the technology.
Technical support- the company should be able to receive technical support from the technological suppliers in regards to the usage of the technology.
How do the implementation issues differ? How are they the same?
Roberts (2016) mentions that the implementation differs in regards to the involvement, as well as, support i.e. if the innovative technology is highly complicated, then its suppliers should be the ones contracted for its installation and training of the end users.
2. What factors must be considered when evaluating an internally implemented innovative technology? Why?
Effectiveness- it is fundamental to consider whether the innovation will be effective in meeting the technological needs of the entity. Besides, does it serve its intended purpose? The company should make a determination if the innovation will be instrumental in cutting costs, increasing productivity and also value addition.
Cost and benefits- it is imperative for the entity to make an analysis of the costs associated with the technology together with its potential benefits. If the costs of acquiring the technology are higher than its benefits, then the project may not be deemed to be feasible.
3. What factors must be considered when acquiring an innovative technology externally? Why?
The innovative capacity of the personnel- this capacity of the human resource is significant since it would determine whether they would be capable of tousling the acquired technology for the general improvement of the performance of the company.
Absorptive, as well as, the leadership capability- it is imperative to determine whether the personnel will embrace the technology or all together resist it. This is because the acquisition of new technology is always accompanied by job losses and redundancies.
Acquisition cost- considering the cost of acquiring the innovative technology is important before its implementation. Besides, the company should have the knowledge regarding the externalities of the technology e.g. impact on the workers' morale, its opportunity costs and its overall alignment with the goals of the entity.
