The position of “Tax Accountant” is a new job in the organization. It was created when the company expanded and the workload increased tremendously. The position will be filled externally. Before coming up with the position title, job analysis was carried out to identify the needs of the job. The position was new and an extensive job analysis had to be carried out. It involved several steps.
The first step was identification of the purpose of the job analysis. This was followed by nominating a team to be involved in carrying out the job analysis for the position. The method of conducting job analysis was then agreed by the team involved. Strategic decisions regarding the job analysis were then made. This include nature of data to be collected and recorded, sources of data, methods of data collection, methods of processing information, and finally sorting of the data collected. This work included preparation of feedback forms, documents, interviews, and questionnaires. Next stage was the collection of data. Data collected included educational qualifications of the desired candidate, duties and responsibilities, skills, employee behavior, experience, abilities to do the job, job activities, desired human traits, hierarchy of reporting, and working conditions. After completing this, the information was then compiled, verified, and reviewed to make sure it was authentic. Finally a job description and a job specification was developed. Job description is information about duties, roles, responsibilities, and activities. Job specification include personal traits, educational qualifications, and essential skills required to effectively and efficiently perform the job.
The position was advertised and candidates expressed their interests for the position by applying for the job. Their applications were received and the selection process began. It involved a number of steps. A recruitment team was first formed. The team then began by shortlisting the candidates. All the shortlisted candidates were invited for psychometric and aptitude tests. Personality assessment was carried out the same day. This resulted in further shortlisting. Those who passed the tests and personality assessment were individually invited to attend oral interviews. After interviews, the candidates were then ranked. The best candidate was selected for the position. The recruitment was then finalized by informing the selected candidate of the next processes. Those who were not selected were also notified after the selected candidate signed the contract. In this process, sources that were mostly utilized are company’s resources on recruitment which have been developed and tested over time. Doing research and updating the organization on issues of technical tax, finding out compliance requirements, and communicating research findings to other departments in need of such information
Assisting in the documentation of the company’s status on matters to do with tax as well as preparing of audit responses of identified positions
Preparing internal projects associated with company’s income tax

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent. A master’s degree in related field will be an added advantage.
4-6 years’ experience in accounting with a minimum of 3 years in corporate/company taxation.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) and/or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) will be added advantage.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
Working knowledge of preparation of tax returns, tax audit procedures for purposes of defense, company’s income tax, and company income tax laws.
