There has been an upsurge in religious terrorism in most countries. According to Griffin, the vice has been brought about by the development of the modern secular lives and its acceptance and adoption among the people. The values of most religions have been said to be eroded by the emergence of the recent irreligious lives. The issue has brought a lot conflicts among the religion people especially the Islam, who feel that their religion has been compromised (Griffin, R. 2012). The Muslims fear to lose their identity as Muslims that necessitate them to engage into attacks that will help them regain their perceived value and state of their religion.
Modernization has posed massive threats to the erosion of the cultural values of different people hence terrorizing the religions. The write acknowledges that for religious terrorism to be fought and eradicated, people must join hands and be collective in their decisions to provide uniformity. The ancient people were regarded to be fanatics of the respective religions and were not willing to change at any given time since they held their closely and were not ready to compromise. Their inflexibility led to viewing the modern secular lives to be infringing on their religions and sine they were ready to defend it, the religious terrorism was initiated.
Its implications to religious terrorism were; widening of the enmity between the Christians and the Muslims. There was a great challenge between the two religious groups as each would undermine the other and accuse on looking down upon the other and this causing the groups to react against each other (Stepanova, E. 2008). It was hard for the groups to interact peaceful thereby creating tension in the country. It also led to massive losses of lives consequently increasing the urge to revenge. One of the famous terrorist known was Osama Bin Laden who people perceived to be very dangerous and upon his death, people thought that the war of terror was over.
The Jihadists were there to kill the non-Muslims and were ready to trade their lives with the fight. These shows to what extent fanatic and extremism had taken toll on people. The only way the Muslims could purify their religion was by eliminating the others by killing them. There was massive radicalization of the Muslims into the terror groups to help in the fights making death inevitable to some people (Griffin, R. 2012). The religions were not ready to tolerate each other hence the increase in deaths. Another implication was bringing the instability in most countries since peace did not prevail. There is also a change in most people’s minds especially the Muslims. In most cases, they are convinced that the world should be remade on the basis of their preferences depending on their motivations.
Conversely, people should be united and all religious leaders should come together to fight terrorists. The great challenge is that most of the leaders are using their positions to fuel the animosity against their rival religions. Religious terrorism is also a psychological attribute that the terrorists should be keenly studied and helped to shun their ways. The extremism should be avoided and people encouraged living peacefully (Stepanova, E. 2008). The radicalization should also be put to a halt and those known to b fueling the terror threats should be brought to the book to serve as warning to the potential terrorists. It would deter those who would be aspiring to convert and be part of the groups. The governments have a role to play to ensure that terrors are eradicated or minimized.
