In the argumentative essay “Should high-school students be looking for a relationship” the author argues that the students should be allowed to make their own choices, when it comes to their adolescent love life. The positive impact that the high-school relationships can have on a young person’s psychological and intellectual perception of the relationships prevails over the negative effects, such as sadness, uncontrolled time, lowering of the grades and useful activity, the deterioration of the family relationships. One of the key methods to prevent such side effects, including possible health issues, is the parental participation in life of their child. This includes giving solid, mature and useful advice, having conversations about the nature of the love relationship, the roles of the partners and the boundaries that need to be set in the relationship with the beloved one. By sharing own personal teenage love story, the author supports the argument that adolescents should not be restricted or denied of the possibility to experience their first immature relationship, including all possible positive and negative outcomes. The denial and lack of understanding and support can lead to the results that are opposite to the expected ones. The author concludes the essay by stating that teenage love relationships are another form of the friendly bonds that are encouraged by parents for their kids to establish, and the natural and healthy way to deal with them is by acknowledging their existence and playing it by ear, while supporting the child in this new experience.
