The blogger talks about the issue of security in the social networks that are rampant in the world today. He starts by giving the extent in which social networks have gone in the world today. There are many aspects in which insecurity has been infiltrated. One problem that we have in social networks today is that of trust. Hackers are making use of social networks for friends so that they get into the space that has been hard to get before. Bad guys use social engineering attacks to send Trojans because most people trust everyone in their networks and will download anything that comes their way. There are malware objects which have been developed and installed in remote computer. Attackers make use of online gamers. These are common in China as they are popular in China. Although there is the use of patches in desktop applications to prevent attacks which are directed at computers, this is not so popular in online applications, there is the use of ActiveX controls which have been introduced by Microsoft to secure their applications from attacks. Although this is the case, its implementation is hard because most users do not make use of these security measures because they are not aware of these measures.
The driving force for these attackers is to gain access to millions of dollars which are floated online. They gain access to passwords for online games and programs. They therefore control the online games and programs and redirect the payment transactions. Most of these people are based in such developing countries like China, Russia, Chile, India, and Malaysia. The Internet has great potential of making millions and this is the reason this hype is taking shape. The surge of the use of social networks and their associated platforms is making internet security hard to get.
