Reflective Review of articles
The reviewed articles described the importance of communication, the stages of development as regards to both receptive and expressive forms of communication and also to the implication of impaired communication skills. There are several important points to note in both articles. The article regarding impairment highlighted the importance of communication and the roles of body senses towards achieving effective communication. We all know that we can live without communication. Human interactions are essential towards achieving good health and stable relationship.
The major highlighted points from the articles regarding the various types of impairment and the effects on learning are vital points that are very important especially when someone is a teacher. Understanding development stages as it relates to expressive and receptive communication modes are very important towards development of creative modes of managing or relating with students with any of such communication skills.
As an experienced teacher, the reviewed articles have several benefits in teaching. This is because of the presented piece regarding the stages of development and forms of impairment. When you are confident with what to expect in a child at certain age and such is not there regarding the communication skills of the child. Such a child could be suspected of having related deficiencies. The importance of that is related to the case of someone not being a specialized teacher but has a student with a form of communication difficulty.
Application of the highlighted points to classrooms or in teaching a student with any sense impairment is related what was noted in the paper. That is, a student with visual impairment is likely to have an enhanced hearing sense. In such a situation, it’s always good to have a proper evaluation and then focus on the strong point of the student so as to ensure the use of functional communications skills in helping the student to learn and relate more with others. Another important aspect of the paper noted was that which relates to the establishment of comfort zone. This is important to have a good session with the student, enable the child to concentrate and provide other learning aids for effective learning and reinforcements. The applications of those strategies listed that were related to visual impairment are not usually easy to implement except the teacher received special training in applying those strategies effectively.
