- What I knew about my career before i began the research process?
When it comes to business, a lot of people take it as a way of making investment and set it up as a firm. I had the same idea about this. Before the research process, I conceived business as an available opportunity when a job is not able to satisfy you in terms of money against the labor effort. Plus, I also thought business being a better career option because it gives you the direct access to all the profits of the sales. It gives all ownership of the earnings and extra profits that seemed attractive.
- Why am I interested in this career?
I want to set up a business of my own considering it constitutes individual's investment and his right to own his earnings. However there are other incentives. Business is not just a luxury for money; it entails your own individual development and management. Management is interesting and that is why I aim to take up a degree in business administration so that I can set up a business of my own. I want to set up my own firm and serve society. I think I possess the capability to lead and direct, hence I would make a career in business.
III. What I learned about my career choice?
My career choice that is doing business is something that cannot be put under fixed number of hours of work or earning or expectations. Since you are the owner, if at one side you bear the earnings, you also have to make the investment, and bear the losses in case there are any.
One has to make investment and define the goal or the target production in sales. Plans must be made properly determining production costs, labor costs and financial projections. After this a marketing plan needs to be formed so as to execute the sales of the service or product you offering. If you are a sole owner, then you shall have to manage all this on your own or you can hire a manger. Managing the enterprise, controlling costs and increasing profits is not an easy task. One needs to strategies well. Business is not easy money considering how much competition is there in the market. Hence you need to look about every area and strategies. Marketing of the product is very necessary.
Running a business cannot guarantee profits, some experts say. It is about covering the cost of production. It is not easy to do so, and simple either.
I interviewed a close relative, who runs his business in a partnership and has a business management degree. He said that doing business is not an easy option and it is not a piece of cake. All the burden of costs and investment falls on you and so does the risk. He said it is better to have a degree in management so that one is aware on how to go about it. It must depend totally on your interest that what service or product you going to provide the market.
He said how having proper professional knowledge helps. There are lot of aspects that need attention as you compete with millions others that may be doing the same business. There are lot of educational instituted that enroll people for a management degree. For those who believe that MBA is only for those who would get in the corporate sector are wrong. MBA also helps those who want to run their own business and provides them insights in dealing with risks and competition. They help in teaching tactics of business and make you professional. An important aspect that they teach about the marketing techniques that help to maximize profits by obtaining customer satisfaction.
IV. What I learned about the types of writing required in my career?
When it comes to types of writing, there is nothing particular except in the matter of handling accounts and financials. You thus should be aware of how to make and comprehend financial statements. You might also have to type official customary letters, reports etc depending on the type of service or product or market you are into.
V. How can I use what I learnt about writing in this course to not only get a job but also keep a job in my career?
There are a lot of ways in which writing lessons from this course could help me. Writing and learning in this course can make me effectively present myself in front of people. I could make an effective resume to make a good impression. Language both oral and written makes a good impression. In dealing with customers and dealers, the command over written and oral skills shall help me get good results and deals. Effective communication shall always make a good impression enabling better services and thus customer satisfaction.
