Introduction
Davis is a large city located in the United States of America in the state of California. It is located in Yolo County and from the recent statistics it’s the most populated city in the county. The city has a total area of 10.5 square miles (27 km2). A large portion of the city is land and only 0.19% of it is water (United States Census Bureau) .This city is situated at 18 km to the west of Sacramento, and a further distance of 113 km northeast of the San Francisco City. Other regions that share a reflective proximity to the Davis town relates to its 619 km location to the North of Los Angeles. Davis town shares a neighborhood location with include Dixon, Winters and Woodland towns.
The city was previously inhabited by Patwin Native Americans who left the town due to disease outbreaks that killed most of the natives. In 1840s European immigrants began to settle down at the City of Davis. In 1868, Davis grew into a southern pacific railroad depot and by then it was commonly referred to as Davisville, which was name adopted from Jerome C. This name was later shortened as Davis, who referred to a prominent farmer found in this local region. The name Davis as indicated above was a short from of adopted by the post officer of this region. The name Davis gained prominence, and was later in March 28, 1917 incorporated in the US cities and into the county. This town has been renowned from its positive contribution in the lines of farming and veterinary science. Besides, this city has made massive contribution in the development of agricultural policies and animal husbandry.
The City of Davis has a number of interesting features that makes the city popular. The city has a vast bicycling infrastructure that has enabled use of bicycles as a reliable source of transport. There are several facilities that are put in place to ensure use of bicycles is swift. This ensures Davis residents today enjoy an extensive network of bike lanes, bike paths, and grade-separated bicycle crossing. The flat terrain and temperate climate are also conducive to bicycling. The city promotes education amongst the community and this is evident by the presence of numerous collages with university of California, Davis (UC Davis) being prominent. The city has numerous public and private schools and a firm education policy that enables schooling and research. The city is a tourist center with rich culture and attraction cites. This includes the festivals that occur throughout the city.
I chose the city because of its Central Valley Mediterranean Climate regime. That means it has dry and hot summers and cool rainy winters. This shows a clear disparity in temperatures in the town throughout the year. It is suitable for study and can be used for model purposes in research.
Comparison of Ground and Satellite Data
Ground station temperature data - this are weather and meteorological stations that are located on the ground and measure various weather patterns. The stations are limited to those that will only collect and relay data in real time (Burrill and Vossen, 1992). Satellite stations data - this measures the temperature inform of infrared and microwaves. The measurements can be used to locate various weather outcomes. Satellites do not measure the temperature but instead measure radiances in various wavelengths bands which are then mathematically converted to bring about relationships to temperature values
The 5 year running average is important since it shows consistency and a pattern can be obtained from it. This is able to be analyzed easily and correct predictions and deviations determined. Average graphs show the difference fluctuations of the temperature from time to time whilst five year running show a trend and it can be easily followed. Use of various data systems for analysis is amenable. Use of different sized averages e.g. 5 year, 11 year, 21 year etc. is important since it’s able to show the exact trend and pattern that the temperature values take over the year. Correct prediction by the meteorological stations is possible. The process is tedious and long also the prediction may be wrong if the data values and wrong averages are used.
