Disease management programs are very important in society today. The issues of healthcare have become very demanding in every society. As a matter of fact there are new demands on disease management programs due to the dynamic nature of diseases and healthcare. The main focus is to reduce the costs of healthcare and at the same time improve quality of life. The disease management programs calls for financial and clinical goals. Today that affects the health of individuals (Shanks, 2011). The new demands on the issue of disease management programs entail the facilitation of determine the patients who are infected with various diseases. In addition, the determination of patient and specific disease affecting them leads to the establishment of the plan to treat them. The programs also need to focus specific people or groups who are affected by certain disease. The new demands include the use of technology in facilitating healthcare to patients.
There are various demands of disease management programs that need to be focused on. Therefore, there should be specific regulatory agencies to undertake the demands of the programs. The regulatory agencies role is to implement the disease management programs. One of the regulatory agencies that are well known in United States is CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) (Fonquernie et al, 2010). The agency carried out the implementation of disease management programs.
There are various risks to the new demand of disease management programs. One of the main risks is that there is tremendous increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases and the tremendous increase in the prevalence rate of diseases. For example, some of the most disease that its prevalence rates have increased includes diabetes, HIV/AIDS, heart disease, as well as diabetes (Fonquernie et al, 2010). The disease management programs are not a must for the public to enroll; hence, he risks is that many people are very slow in becoming part of the program.
Diabetes is one of the threats in the United States. Perhaps, one of the successful programs is that of the elderly people who are diabetic. This has recorded the highest improvements and success in the last decade (Shanks, 2011). The programs on hypertension have also become successful and have recorded many benefits. There are various factors that has played a critical role in the success of this programs; this include proper planning, increase in public participation, and quality information flow.
