Strategic human resource management entails formulating and implementing the right procedures to hire and motivate skilled employees in any field of our lives. For any success to be accomplished, human resource managers and personnel should be incorporated in the formulation of the strategic plan. Strategic human resource management involves the internal and external factors to the organization.
Health Care Human Resource Management
The law is outlined in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and also in Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1990, whereby all the employees have equal rights to employment and in employment. It is emphasized that no one should be discriminated because of their religion, color, sex, race or any other factor. The personnel involved in hiring should ensure all the guidelines are followed to the letter. Another area where the personnel should put emphasis of the law is when hiring new employees, in case of a dismissal and even during promotion.
For an employee to advance in unequal employment case, they must first file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission which always comes before filing a lawsuit. Evidence must be gathered before a judgment is made concerning the matter, failure to which may lead to withdrawal. All the sectors of the economy including the health care services must adhere to this law. For instance there was a violation of the law when my sister was asked for some sexual favors by a supervisor in a certain clinic to get a letter of recommendation for promotion.
This field of health care service is particularly faced by many challenges of the violation of human rights at different capacities. The above scenario of my sister who was a qualified nurse led to the questioning of the level of integrity in the health care sector. Employees should be promoted based on the qualification and the performance of their work and there should be no compromise. Strategic human resource management as a study should be undertaken by all persons in the management level and even their juniors so as to understand the various concepts of hiring and motivating the employees.
Another violation of the law happened to my aging dad when he was dismissed by a private security firm because of his age. They had employed a younger person to replace my dad who was aged forty nine years. The security firm followed the instructions given by one of their major client who was a hospital operating in the south of Carolina state. According to the Equal Employment Act, no one should be discriminated because of their age or even the gender or color or their religion
Conclusion
Proper guidelines should be laid down to deal with all those who violate the law and also there should be the integration of strategic human resource management and law. Also from the discussion we can see that the violation of the laws are everywhere not only in the health care services alone, but also in the private practice. Personnel management should be introduced to the concept of strategic human resource management to be competent in hiring and even motivating the employees. A sensitization program should be run in all the departments of the organization. There should also be severe penalties to the persons who are found violating the laws.
