Over the years the role of Sherlock Holmes has been viewed as an intellectual warrior and a hero. This is due to the way his character is portrayed in different investigative series. The crowning of these names that are associated with a heroic character is due to the intelligence that he shows in his work. Sherlock Holmes as an investigative character is quite admirable and has been an inspiration to many authors and students whom have reviewed his articles. Numerous people have associated his character with confidence that has great admiration towards the role that he plays in the numerous detective books that have been authored about him. His character is set as an example to individuals around the world who are asked to be confident like him and to be determined like the way Sherlock Holmes. His character has been regarded with great admiration.
Holmes character is quite unique; this is because is made clear through his beliefs. For instance, he states that man’s brain can only store a certain amount of facts, as his lack of the basic source of knowledge does not affects ability to make accurate observations. Through this statement he tries to state that if truly determined, man can acquire all the relevant information that he requires. “We find Holmes reappearing in successive epochs, refined and rearticulated, applying his awesome mental powers to the crisis of the day” (McKenna 48). However, this can only be achieved an individual is keen on investigating on matters that that he really wants sorted out. Through this there is a possibility that all the problems that required to be solved will be achieved and much more understood.
In order to acquire the required objectives, Sherlock Holmes makes it his business to ensure that he achieves all the objectives that may be essential in helping to solve a crime. Observation to him is an important element that he put to consideration. To him observation is the key to retrieving the little elements that may have been left out while trying to conduct an investigation. According to him, it is these little matters that are not considered that are the key to acquiring accurate information in the particular investigation. However, despite being observant, Sherlock Holmes has a unique personality whereby he may not necessary require to be observant. This is because his unique character can be useful in having a perspective regarding certain matters that he encounters regularly in his work. These skill are quite essential in helping him to reach upon possibilities that no one else could have though off.
While conducting his investigations, he tends stay distant from individuals that may have been affected through a crime that he is trying to solve. This is quite important to him since it helps in ensuring that he can reach the right conclusions regarding things that he may think to have taken part in the crime (Kayalvizhi 3). It is evident that there are elements that may cause a detective to reach the wrong conclusions. This is common in instances where the investigator gets to attached to the person involved in a particular investigation. To keep his head clear and away from matters that may negatively affect his decisions in an investigation, he tends to keep himself distant from factors that may affect him. This is because as an investigator, he is looked upon as an individual who will resolve problem and help in bringing to justice culprits who took part in committing a crime that he was expected to solve. If he is affected through external factors in the investigation, he may not reach a correct conclusion.
Despite what other individuals think of Sherlock Holmes, he is also like any other person who would want to be given credit to crimes that he solved. “His detective skills are amateur and incorruptible” (Harper 69). It is evident that people seem to view Sherlock Holmes as a unique person to whom solving cases is no big deal. This is evident through the different opinions that people give regarding him. They tend to not know, that despite the numerous cases that he solves, he is quite happy when people appreciate the work that he does as it gives him much pleasure when people appreciate him. His exceptional detective skills are unique as it is experienced in his books. This is because other detectives may fails to identify the small factors that he identifies which have a significant impact in resolving crimes. In other instances he likes being give credit to crimes that he helped to solve. On other circumstances, he is quite a joyful and has a good sense of humor. Through this it is evident that he is happy when given credit. The devotion that he also put to his work and the continuous efforts that he applies requires to be given credit. This is due to acknowledgment that each and every individual would like to be given the credit for things that he has put efforts to solving. Through this statement, it is clear that Sherlock Holmes is not unexceptional; therefore, he should be given the credit that he deserves.
In other instances, he is seen to be annoyed that he is not getting enough credit where due. This is evident in instances where his colleagues Gregson and Lestrade get the credit while he being part of the team that helped solve the crime gets little credit. Through this scenario, it is evident that he is also happy when he is given credit for the hard work that he does. This helps people in understanding that despite the numerous crimes that he has helped solved, he is happy when he is given credit for every new case that he solves. This is because every case is unique in its own way, therefore, new and advanced skill are required in order to solve them. Through the unique of every case, a lot of thinking is required of which he would be happy if he is given credit for helping if not entirely solving a case on himself. He is also seen to be reluctant in to help in carrying out an investigation that he is not comfortable with since he is not sure whether he will be given the credit that he deserves. This Cleary illustrates that he takes great pleasure out of the recognition that he gets out of solving every case that he works on.
Sherlock Holmes is also seen to be quite persuasive; this is through the devotion that he gives to his work through ensuring that he does not fail to solve a crime. His character is motivated by ensuring that he resolves his investigations. This is evident through the continuous efforts that he shows to ensuring that justice is served. In his numerous investigations, he is seen to be devoted through ensuring that he gets to the bottom of the most complicated cases. His uniqueness is what helps him achieve results that other investigators fail to achieve. He is also seen not to be contented by easy solutions that he comes across during his investigations. This is due to the possibility of a crime to be tampered with in order to give forceful information that may help in closing a case that may not have been entirely solved. Through this, he is professional enough to try and evaluate all the possible scenarios that may have resulted to the crime and pick out all evidence that may help in catching the culprits behind crimes.
In summary, it is assure that Sherlock Holmes plays a hero in his detective books. This is because he plays a significant role that goes a long way in ensuring that people acquire justice by making sure that people involved in crimes are brought to justice. There are also brief explanations that are stated which help people in understanding that he like other individuals in the world has desire for success and recognition. This is made evident through the joy that he derives from being given credit for crimes that he helped in solving. This is further elaborate through the reluctant that he shows in helping his colleagues in a particular crime since he is afraid that he may not be given the credit that he deserves yet he puts a lot of effort to his work. He is also seen to be driven by a passion to ensure that the truth is found out and that justice is served regardless of how difficult a situation happens to be. It is evident that his character is greatly admired. Having reviewed this, it is clear that Sherlock Holmes is a character whom people should imitate.
