Introduction
The term, ‘Sport marketing’ refers to a sub section of marketing. This section of marketing is related to promotion of sports events and sports teams. This division also promotes various services and products through sport events and players. Sport marketing mainly emphasizes on three elements: promotion of various sports and matches like Wimbledon, Football league etc.; promotion of different products and services through sport players and events; and promotion of sports events among public to ensure huge participation. Sports marketing has emerged as one of most lucrative businesses and people related to this business are making huge sum of money. There are several divisions of sports marketing right from branding of the teams to sports items and marketing of players, organizing of events, manufacturing and selling sports items etc. this seems to be the main reason why huge amount of money is involved in this sector. Like any other business or sector, there are some requirements of this sector too that needs to be fulfilled and effective communication skill is one of them. This paper intends to discuss sports marketing, role of communication in this sector and several other aspects of the subject matter.
Scope and career in sports marketing
Sport has become a prestigious activity and a lot of money is involved into this sector. Government is promoting sports and private players have also entered into this sector considering the plenty of opportunities and involved money into it. Huge, lavish and expensive sport events are being organized regularly and people who are working in this are becoming richer day by day. Considering all the above mentioned aspects, broad scope and future of sports marketing, I have decide to make my career in this sector. As told by teachers, friends and several others, I came to know that communication plays very significant role in the sports marketing.
Event manager plays a vital role in success of such sport events and associated activities. The position of event manager is well recognized and respected by the other members of organization. During initial phase I want to be an event manager because of higher responsibilities and recognition. The position involves lot of creativity, innovation, challenges and use of effective communication skills.
Role of Communication
Sport and communication are interrelated and the role of Communication will continuously increase in the sports marketing. Communication has changed the idea of sports marketing and contributed significantly right from organizing sports events and also in attracting sponsors, participants and spectators into the sport events. In fact communication has proved its necessity at several levels in the area of sports marketing be it schools, colleges, and public or professional sports events .
Sports marketing is an emerging sector and it is different from other areas. Like other areas this field also has some mandatory skills and communication is one of the most important skills which one cannot ignore if he has to sustain in this field. Communication matters a lot for the people related to sports marketing at every step and since the beginning of career. It helps in getting the job and then it matters in performing. To make a successful career and to achieve a high rank in the sports marketing, communication is an important tool. After reaching at a high position again it plays an important role when it comes to managing the associates, juniors, team and most importantly, business.
How to start a career in sports marketing
Internship is a good medium of networking but not the sole; one should always try to make new connections to the people related to the sports marketing. There are several career oriented Websites and magazines that gives significant information related to sports marketing and even inform about the available opportunities in this sector. Visiting different sports clubs can also bring positive news. College also inform about the available opportunities in this sector. Participating in alumni meetings of colleges can bring good news and one may enter into this sector without much struggle. Management courses that are designed and related to the sports are also very important source of information.
Since the field of sports marketing has become money spinning, the competition is tough and in this case preparing self is necessary. Confined to one thing is not going to help anyone. Initially an aspirant who wishes to enter in the sports marketing should not expect much and start working whenever and wherever he gets a chance. He will get rest of things himself. Hard work has no alternative and this is applied in the field of sports marketing. One should keep himself updated and always ready for the hard work which is a key to success in this field.

After having observed the abovementioned analysis of the sports marketing, it is good to say that this sector is one of the most happening sectors and has a lot of opportunities. People who want to make their career in sports marketing should fulfill some conditions that are required for this sector.
