Halliburton is an international company operating as one of the world’s largest providers of products and services in the energy sector. Halliburton has cutting-edge innovative capability and experience to provide competitive logging services. Founded in 1919 and based in Houston, U.S.A, the company offers a wide range of products and services related to drilling and hence logging through its two business segments: the Completion and Production segment, and the Drilling and Evaluation segment (Halliburton). It is therefore dedicated to providing quality commodities to its clients.
Preparation and methods
Preparation for a logging activity begins at Halliburton premises where all requirements are determined. Halliburton then uses its variety of truck-mounted log units to get the intended services to the drilling site for which there is need for convenient parking at the site. A rig up process takes place which involves setting up a lowering cable and readying it with required tools. The well measures 11 475 feet deep (Martens).
The methods used in well logging by Halliburton vary depending on the nature of the method itself. The following methods are used by the company: density logging, gamma logging, nuclear magnetic resonance logging, neutron logging and resistivity logging (Shankar). For accuracy, the company does not limit the logging process to a single method; instead, it may employ several methods together to ensure the most accurate data possible is obtained. In many of the cases, Halliburton will carry out the task with logging units that are truck mounted. A logging cable is crucial in the process for lowering the tools down the well. Appropriate tools are lowered to the desired depth into the well in the procedure specified above and the required data is retrieved as the tool is expertly pulled up.
Density logging: Under this method, Halliburton measures the formation of density by estimating the porosity and matrix as well as densities of fluids. Additional information including images of the formation is provided by a specialized tool. The image information is then be used to estimate the formation dip.
Gamma logging: In this method, Halliburton measures the natural gamma rays emitted by various elements in the formation. This information is useful in quantifying aspects of the well such as shaliness, well-to-well correlation, depth correlation as well as logging runs. Information is collected by exclusive interactions of log tools with gamma rays. According to Martens (9), radiation from any direction of the environment within the well is detected by special equipment.
Neutron logging: This method takes advantage of the sensitivity to hydrogen in the formation. Important information on formation fluid filled porosity is collected through specialized tools. In this method, a chemical such as Americium (Martens 8) is used to serve as a continuous source of energy through its emission of neutrons. The emissions interact with nuclei of atoms, a process that results in emission of gamma ray (Martens). These rays are studied and inference on the formation of the subsystem is made.
Resistivity logging: In this method, Halliburton takes advantage of the ability of a substance to impede the flow of an electrical current. Two categories of resistivity: induction and laterolog are used to achieve the logging needs. Halliburton uses different dedicated tools for either method. In dual laterolog, a measurement current that is emitted from a center electrode is forced to flow into the formation to provide information on the subsurface. The induction method uses electromagnetic induction principle whereby the magnetic field initiated in the transmitter coil induces ground loop currents in the formation from which relevant information can be inferred (Shankar).
Tools used by Halliburton
Halliburton has numerous tools and other necessary resources to effectively employ any of the methods above. Different tools are employed depending on the method used in the well logging process. But as stated above, a number of methods may be used in a bid to step up accuracy and ensure the most helpful information is collected. Accordingly, various tools may necessarily be used as per the methods. Specifically, the corresponding select tools for the various methods include the following:
The Dual Gamma Ray Sensor is used to provide accurate natural gamma ray logs with proven reliability. It can be combined with other tools to work simultaneously if need arises. The following image depicts this tool:

An Azimuthal Lithodensity Sensor is used when density logging is considered appropriate. This tool uses a couples azimuthal binning of data with an independent acoustic standoff sensor to give azimuthally-oriented density data.

The Compensated Thermal Neutron Sensor tool is used to provide accurate information in the neutron logging process.
In the case of resistivity logging, Halliburton uses the Azimuthal Deep Resistivity Sensor and Azimuthal Focused Resistivity Sensor among others to obtain information.
Halliburton provides high-quality well logging services at considerably low prices. For this case, the exercise will take about ten hours. Billing is based on the amount of time expended and other factors that may be deemed pertinent to the specific case. A ten hour activity will cost $ 2500.
