Dancing and musical style of disco - perhaps the most popular trend of pop culture of the past century. The history of the genre begins around mid-70s at the same time the United States and Europe. American style disco has incorporated the traditions and the sound of funk and soul. European same direction disco inherited typical trends of traditional pop and interlaced with the new trends in pop music.
Some argue that the Disco came on the scene in the early 70s of 20th century, around 1971-1973. Others say that the disco appeared in the mid 70s of 20th century. The decisive factor in this is the answer to the question "What is DISCO?" Is it music for dance clubs, which began playing in clubs , setting records for the audience? Or style of music with its specific recognizable sound? If you start from the latter, this is the sound appeared in the '74-'76 years of the 20th century. Disco created an atmosphere of celebration, the "eternal summer", love, illusion of freedom, in which the problems of everyday life got forgotten, overlapping only one desire - to dance. In the late '70s, America and Europe have experienced a real disco boom, whose influence greatly transformed stylistic pattern of rock and pop music of the period. Disco is rooted in the Negro funk and soul, so called vokal-bands of 60s (label Motown Records), the Californian surf rock.
One of the first "Disco hits" was the song of Gloria Gaynor (Gloria Gaynor) "Never can say goodbye", who led the charts in 1974. For most of the first Disco hits the mid 70's was often somewhat slower pace, but over the years has accelerated significantly Disco music and most importantly - the song became longer. Disco - music that you can dance, therefore, that music should bring people joy and make them move whether it be on the dance floor, whether it be in any other place. Her drayvovy hypnotic rhythm just makes the listener feel like dancing, or at least knock foot rhythm. Indeed, it is difficult to sit still at the sound of a good disco tunes, and even some joy fills you up when you listen to disco.
The huge development of disco performers made it possible to record a large number of albums, and thereby increase their level of earnings. Today, disco music is also quite popular, but it is significantly different from the old type, so at this point of time there are many varieties of this musical flow.
Essential attributes of disco were high hairstyles bright make-up, shiny clothes, in dance halls flashed neon flash, the ceiling has always spinning mirror ball - all around breathed with glamor and glitter. The vibrant music allowed to escape from everyday cares and plunge into the carefree fun. For new dances did not need special skills, such as, for example, to rock 'n' roll, so the disco has become available to the whole world. For a while disco with its own atmosphere of celebration and carnival became a way of life of a generation.
The public increasingly demanded of novelty and originality, which often occur due to the hard work of the sound engineer, and not a virtuoso musician playing. In the foreground an expensive high-tech equipment, and the man behind the mixing desk can do wonders with no experience playing musical instruments. The album's success largely depends on the experienced producer, who first thinks of his subjects, compositional style, and then select the correct authors of poetry and music, as well as musicians and singers.
Reaching an incredible popularity, willingly or not, the style of disco influenced the musical culture of the mid-late 70s of the 20th century. Even the well-known and held at that time rock artists in his work came under his influence. Let us remember the song "I was made for lovin 'you" group Kiss, or "Take Me Home" Cher, "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" Rod Stewart (Rod Stewart) and even "Miss You" Rolling Stones and «Another One Bites the Dust» Queen. They all heard the unique sound of disco. By the way, even the first hit by Bryan Adams (Brian Adams) was the song is in the top 5 club hits "Let Me Take You Dancing".
At the root of European style disco were groups "Abba" and "Boney M", which had almost the biggest fame in the history of pop music. Producers and composers have contributed to the dissemination and promotion of the new style.
Sex appeal of Disco music has found its manifestation on movie screens, such as Ravel's Bolero disco cover for classic sounds in a pretty candid scene of the film "Ten" (1979) directed by Blake Edwards.
Speaking about the movie "Saturday Night Fever", I must say that it really was a breakthrough for Disco music, which from the status of music for clubs and discos moved to the status of popular music, music for a wide range of listeners, and the group «Bee Gees», recorded a large part of the soundtrack for the film, has become a real icon of the Disco music. This movie became a second breath for the disco music and exploded its popularity. That was the period when disco became a whole new part of the pop cuture. Movie embodied the spirit of the disco era, was a resounding success, has become a cult classic. People were idolizing disco artists and were ready to pay crazy money for the ticket to go and listen to the phonogram instead of the live shows. It wasn’t about the sound it was about the personality of the artists: their look, lifestyle and even dance moves on the stage. This movie has brought worldwide fame to the creators of the soundtrack - band Bee Gees. Songs of this band became instant hits and do not lose their freshness of the sound to this day. the main character in the film, embodied by John Travolta in the movie, was the "standard" appearance of "clubber". Most of the young people in the West to imitate Tony Manero, dressed in shirts and suits polyester, making "the Hustle" in platform shoes, and the girls were dressed in (preferably) designer dresses and "treated" dance floors in high heels. The names of the most popular designers could even be heard in the disco songs, such as in "He's the greatest dancer" Sister Sledge lists the names of the "Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci".
Disco music transformed the whole meaning of dancing clubs. It started a whole new music style and influenced the life of almost every single citizen in the big city. Everybody was singing these simply to remember songs and was trying to dress alike new pop stars They were unique and became part of everyday’s routine: commercials, magazines, news, hits, movies, night clubs, hair styles, clothes. Disco was everywhere.
Disco style is still popular and loved today. Not only the older generation who "lit" in discos in the eighties, at the peak of popularity of disco, but also the youth is having fun listening and dancing disco.
