The ABC program aims to rehabilitate former convicts who were gang members though it proves quite a challenge. More than 70 percent of them tend to move back to their old ways. Some of the selling points of the ABC gang intervention program is provision of anger management classes. Ideally, the program should be in a position to reduce the recidivism. Hence, the research question revolves around the effectiveness of ABC in reducing recidivism.
There are two main types of variables: independent and dependent. Independent variables tend to look at issues faced in the environment like job opportunities while dependent variables tend to focus on recidivism by looking into reduction of crime after the intervention phrase. The two variable combined tend to inflict each other resulting to the individual dependence. Hence, the independent variables turn out to be nominal as its classification does not rely on their job opportunities or acceptance by the community. However, dependent variables stand out as nominal since it revolves around “Yes” or “No” questions.
Proposed Research Design
The proposed design would be Pre Post project and comparison. It will feature a case study that will analyses the 70 percent of gang member from multiple spectrums. The case study will look into the tattoo removal programs and job training in regards to their external environment. It also focuses on the ABC program’s premature release implications to the reformed members. Its strengths lies on the availability of data and detailed analysis. However, most of the information lacks credibility and biases.
Sampling Techniques
The sampling methods considered in evaluation the gang members is purposive sampling. It is abides by the rule that a sample of the group is equivalent to the whole population. It will help researcher to develop an appropriate sample, which will represent the effectiveness towards the general population and reduce its variability.
Proposed Methods
The proposed methods include online surveys, collection of data and interviews. Police data will be of great assistance individuals arrested due to recidivism. Advertisements on local newspapers and boards will help in gathering different people to participate in the program. The organization will have a feedback email where people can send in their opinions about the issues raised and how to improve the system.
Proposed Timelines
The proposed timelines factor in several processes. The first process is the attendance of former gang members and their continued participation. The second process is to determine its effectiveness to the general perception of the community towards those that attend the session. The other tool will be questionnaires as it helps in providing feedback from the attendees and the society. The over all timeline for the study would be three years with a recheck of the process every two years for the following ten years.
Issues Relating To Validity and Reliability
The major issue on validity and reliability on an internal basis is the effectiveness of variables. Reliability relies on independent variables like unemployment, which act as the major cause of joining gangs. The external issues rely on validity and effectiveness of the processes as it affects the society. It would be pointless for those that attend the sessions to come out worse that they were at the beginning.
Personnel Required and Cost
The evaluation process will not require a large number of personnel. It will require psychiatrists and physicians, as they understand how to deal with such people. However, the sessions will require snacks and drinks as well as writing materials to record the events. The personnel can pitch camp within the local halls or set up a tent. Roughly, the process will require $2,000 to employ fully all its requirements and needs.
