Gotti Junior is a son to late John Gotti, who was a powerful American gangster. He was vey powerful and famous. He was regarded as the most famous and powerful gangster in the American history since Al Capone. John Gotti had grown in poverty with his brothers and turned ton into a career criminal at an early age. His crime activities were mainly at the Ozone Park neighborhood, Queens. He easily rose to prominence because he was the family’s biggest earner. When the Federal Bureau of Investigations indicted several members of the family for selling drugs, Gotti took advantage of a growing disapproval of the leadership offered by Castellano. He feared that Castellano would kill him and therefore he organized for Castellano’s murder in 1985. He was voted to become the head of the Gambino crime family after he murdered Paul Castellano in 1985 who was the reigning boss of the Gambino family.
John Gotti Junior acted as the head of the Gambino family following the arrest and imprisonment of his father. Junior Gotti was born on 14th February 1964 in New York and was called Junior Goti since he shared a name with his daddy. On 5th August 2008, Junior Gotti alongside five other accomplices got indicted. The reason for the indictment was the murder of three men in the early 90s and late 1980s. Gotti was taken into custody after being arrested in his Long Island home. The charges against Gotti were his involvement in a drug ring that mainly operated in Florida, New Jersey and New York and the murder of three men. One of the murdered men was a man by the name Louis Dibono, who was a soldier for the Gambino family and the construction contractor. Bruce J. Gotterrup and George Grosso were the other two victims.
Based on the claims that Gotti Junior had retired from crime and cut all ties with the Gambino family, should he have been charged with criminal conspiracy? Is it true that the State was just recycling old cases against Gotti Junior after other charges of criminal conspiracy against him had all failed? Not likely. Considering that Gotti Junior had acted as the head of the crime family while his father was in prison, the chances are high that he committed crimes as the head of the family. The position he held at the time as a chief gangster required him to run drug trafficking and other crime rings. It is common knowledge to everyone that such rings are not run by the holiest men in the society. The rings are run by selfish men who are always ready to do anything including gross violations of human morals of conduct to achieve what they want. They can kill torture or inflict pain to their competitors and those who do things that are contrary to their expectations. Therefore, despite the claim that Gotti Junior had quit crime, it cannot be assumed that when he was the head of the crime family he conducted drug business as ‘usual businesses’. To protect their interests, drug leaders will always kill. Territorial wars among gangs are common. They are always bloody wars that lead to loss of life and destruction of property. It cannot be assumed at all that Gotti Junior ran the drug business with sobriety just like a departmental store owner would do. It is clear that Gotti Junior deserved to be served with criminal conspiracy.
If a person plots alongside another person to commit an act or make an omission that adds up to a crime and the act or omission is carried out, then the charge of criminal conspiracy against a person is valid. In the case of Gotti Junior, John Alite, who was Gotti’s accomplice was willing to testify that Gotti Junior was involved in crimes like cocaine trafficking and the brutal murder of the three men. This point further shows that Gotti Junior was supposed to charged with criminal conspiracy.
