Introduction
Snapchat is a widely used photo-sharing app, which allows users to take pictures and send them to other Snapchat user/s. The biggest advantage of using Snapchat over other mobile messaging applications is the image sent gets deleted after a certain period of time. With the major advantage and difference between Snapchat and other mobile messaging applications, it is understandable that Snapchat has emotional, logical, credible and relative appeals of the users. There are four rhetorical appeals namely ethos, logos, pathos and kairos that can be used to understand how people are attracted to using Snapchat.
Ethos applies to the character or credibility of Snapchat as users know that their image message will be deleted by Snapchat after a certain period of time and no one would be saving their personal information. This feature of Snapchat gives them credibility as in other mobile messaging applications messages sent remain present unless deleted by the user. Using Snapchat seems logical to users due to the convenience and fun of using visual messages. Users can easily create a story and share with others, making their own miniature profile. Visual messages are automatically more attractive than old-school text messages.
Pathos applies to the emotional connection of Snapchat with its users. Using Snapchat makes people feel safe as their message will be deleted after a certain period of time and makes them emotionally connect with the application. Unlike other mobile messaging applications, Snapchat provides users will an opportunity to be creative with its integrative image messaging system. Snapchat applies to the relativity as within a small period of time, the application has gained a significant number of people as its avid users. Also, Snapchat has become of the necessary tools to remain socially relevant in today’s society.
