Social interaction encompasses various social circumstances and interpersonal behaviors and its methods of study vary from the field to the laboratory. It can be defined as an ongoing change of individual’s social actions according to the actions of their interaction partners. Moreover, the factors that influence and guide social interactions shape continuously the way people interact with each other even without an individual’s knowledge. Social status is one of the factors that affect social interaction. It shapes the human behavior and attitudes since an individual’s behavior changes according to the group one belongs. Besides, social norms have an impact on the human society in that it affects the human behavior that ultimately leads to a standardized lifestyle. For instance, persons with the same experiences and interests tend to watch similar TV shows and programs (Shim et al. 158).
One’s attitude is another factor that shapes social interaction. Every individual views thing differently. One may like or dislike someone or something and the more one expresses a friendly attitude toward something or someone, one becomes more willing to do as the other pleases (Nezlek et al. 812). On the other hand, people often get defensive whenever they have a disfavoring attitude toward an individual or something. For instance, children usually have the notion that doctors inflict pain on people. Therefore, whenever they know that they are being taken to the doctor, children often become upset due to the attitude they have regarding physicians and hospitals. Attitudes can shape people’s personality and social interactions since people behave per the way they view certain situations and their expectations from them.
Additionally, there are also some biological factors that influence social interaction such as genetic inheritance. Some patterns of behaviors are inherited from parents hence molding the behavior of children. For instance, identical twins seem to have same behaviors and attitudes compared to less closely related individuals. Hence, genetic inheritance has an impact on the social interaction of individuals in the society.
