Scientific methods in social science are important and the play a vital role in the scientific research method. Scientist believes in gathering information through experiments, interviewing and other means and analyzing the information unbiased. Sociological research is a means of getting the information regarding different phenomenon by the application of scientific means. It is important because social hypotheses can be proved true or wrong by use of scientific methods. Again, scientific research follows a given a specific plan, either qualitative or quantitative with an aim of defining a cause of something or the relationship between different variables.
Critical thinking is important in every aspect of life. It is also an important factor when studying social sciences. These are skills like creative thinking and work collaboration that are taught in the social sciences that cannot be done in the absence of critical thinking. Analyzing skills are another aspect that one cannot succeed without application of critical thinking. Failure to apply critical thinking in daily live situations will lead to failure of many skills that would be easily learnt.
For instance, failure to apply critical thinking lead to the failure of nursing research I was scheduled to research. It was clear that I could not carry out the research without approval of the Institutional review board. I failed to seek approval from the board to carry out the research ended up failing. The reason for failure was because I did not apply critical thinking.
Interdisciplinary studies are a combination of social sciences programs that enable students to demonstrate the skills that are acquired in the humanistic study. It has different purposes, including; gaining of knowledge through interdisciplinary study programs. These studies introduce different methodologies that are useful within the social sciences and the department. The other purpose of the study is to gain skills. Interdisciplinary skill ensures that students are able to demonstrate the knowledge acquired in the humanistic study. Example of these skills is the ability to analyze, thinking critically, or even writing clearly. The other goal of intermediary study is to improve the performance in social sciences.
These studies are important because it combines two or more disciplines that equip the learner with skills to have critical thinking, develop a problem solving skills, among other benefits. The students can understand the importance of combining different academic fields in to suit their life interests. Through these studies, students can develop skills to work with others efficiently, in other words, collaboration skills.
Cultural relativism is a social belief in the existence of many cultures and that there is no culture that is important that another. It has arrived at that point through the comparison of different aspects of cultures such as politics, morality, and law. Relativism is made up of many branches that include cognitive relativism, situational relativism and, and moral relativism.
An example of concept in cultural relativism is pluralism and tolerance. We live in society that has different people with different cultures. For the peace to prevail in these societies, people must understand and accept the cultures of each other. As long as nobody is hurt in the society, people will continue to coexist with each other and tolerance will be in practice. Relativism encourages people to accept the beliefs of other people no matter how bad they are. It encourages one to duly understand his culture.
The cultural relativism is appropriate some respects in the society because through, one can understand well his or her culture. Cultural relativism has evolved to modern relativism in many societies. They define the kind of lifestyle that they we follow in society. For example, clothing, food, driving rules and language is different many societies. Therefore, these aspects of life are defined by the cultural relativism.
