The short video identified is Children See Children Do. The video captures children mimicking actions of the parents with regard to their action and language. In the video, a parent is captured shouting and the child follows suit and begins shouting too (KidScan). Most of the copied activities by children from adults are negative ranging from littering, aggression and smoking. On the contrary, the video also shows a man helping a troubled lady and the child also turns out to offer help as for how his father had done (KidScan). The video is aimed to make people aware that children imitate most actions done by parents. The video evidently shows that parents hold great influence over their children's actions.
Durkheim's Theory is greatly based on the evolution of societies and their functions. The ideas of Durkheim were greatly on social facts regarded as norms, values or otherwise called societal structures (Berkman & Lisa, Pg 846). In reference to the video, Durkheim would say that the idea of children growing up and involvement in aggressive behavior or engaging in behavior not accepted by the society is not as a result of psychological inconsistencies but there are other factors that greatly lead to the aforementioned problem such as integration and the level of the child's attachment to the society, with the parents and family members falling in the society category (Berkman & Lisa, Pg 852). Therefore Durkheim would be in total agreement that parents play a major role in influencing a child's behavior.
Max's theory on social action argues that a person's actions are highly influenced by the actions as well as behaviors of other individuals in the society. Further, social action is highly influenced by not only past actions but also those in the present. Therefore, he argues that social action is possible if there exists another individual whose behavior as well as actions is prompting the person to act in a certain way. Hence, in relation to the video, Max would agree with the idea that children do that what they see their primary role models do thus, their parents.
The main idea behind the positivism theory developed by Auguste Comte is that positive Knowledge not only derived from people’s natural phenomena but also from their relations. From his theory, Auguste brings forward the argument that people develop information mainly from their sensory experiences which they later interpreted through both logic and reasoning and eventually becomes the main source of what he terms as authoritative knowledge (Comte, Pg. 235). In the video, it is quite evident that the youngsters have the tendency of acquiring information from their role models especially their parents through sensory experiences. From Auguste Comte's theory, valid knowledge is developed from what he terms as derived knowledge. Moreover, verified data those individuals acquire from their senses is considered as empirical evidence. Therefore, in regard to the video, Comte would be in agreement with the idea that children look up to their parents as their main role models and act as their parents do which has been proven scientifically.
Symbolic Interaction perspective can be regarded as the most represented paradigm in the selected video. This sociology framework is also termed as symbolic interactionism. The paradigm suggests that interaction processes leads to the development of symbolic meanings. The paradigm critically analyses subjective meanings imposed by people on simple things such as behaviors, objects as well as events (Stryker & Sheldon, Pg.20). According to the paradigm; Symbolic Interaction, individuals have the tendency of interpreting other people’s behavior and thereby, form social bonds from these interpretations. The theory also suggests that meaning is often attached to symbols by individuals, who later act according to subjective interpretations of these existing symbol. In relation to the video, children tend to attach meanings to all symbols that are portrayed by role models and later act according to their subjective interpretations of the symbols. Therefore, children do what they see from their parents.
