While studying last year I participated in international students’ organization, which is located in almost 40 countries all over the world. It was an association of general states of Europe and USA with more than 15000 members.
This group belonged to primary social groups because all the members interacted with each other personally, had common values and hopes. As a typical primary group, the association consisted of people who met their needs in communication. It means that the group focused on the relationship between its members.
Since this students’ organization founded on the principles of sense of community, it belonged to cohesive social groups. Everyone was a point of intersection of the social and psychological meanings of the whole team. However, each member connected with all other members.
Although the group followed best human values and rights, it did not have much financial support by government or any other private institution or cooperation. Unfortunately, we had to work voluntarily, but the experience we achieved was worth it. In addition, we faced with a problem of less of trust. It is a stereotype that most of organizations demand paying fees and give nothing instead. Therefore, young people usually are very careful with joining such groups and used to check it carefully before participating.
As for communication, we did not have any problems because we kept always in touch via social networks. It is very useful nowadays to stay online in case you have any urgent questions.
However, I would also like to improve PR strategy of the organization because we need to inform young people about such international opportunities. For example, we could make more presentations in universities or provide meetings for newcomers more often.
Anyway, total amount of members is 150 that is good, comparing to other locals. Therefore, I do believe the organization would be developing and more people would join it in the future months.
