Making positive changes in life is a critical decision in terms of its vitality for enabling the evaluations of new healthy ways and making adjustments with them. These cumulate towards attainment of personal growth and development, and in bringing contribution towards achieving organization goals at the workplace. Adopting the above cited changes involves incorporation of requisite values and measures, those that are beneficial not only to personal growth but also aid in developing positive relationships with the people around us, both at workplaces and at a personal level. Further, the process of inclusion of a positive change involves identification and abandoning of negative factors (that affect our life), accompanied by incorporating positive attitude/behavior in our routine activities. However, such changes call for a conscientious schematizing about what adjustments need to be made to suffice them in life along with the span of them getting into effect. This span of time till they get into their intended impact is crucial to adapt with as achieving personal growth is a gradual process that requires patience and positive attitude.
One of the basic ways of achieving personal growth is learning how to balance relationships particularly at workplace and in personal life (Seaward, 243). During this course, I have learnt several aspects of this notion that might aggrandize in enabling me to achieve personal growth and in improving my relationship at work, encompassing the attainment of the organizational objectives. I have inferred from my learning so far that a change is influenced by our willingness to accept ourselves ascending along the process of identifying and choosing the priorities, and in appreciating other people, particularly the workmates and families. The four quintessential factors that I intend to use in orchestrating a triumphant future are: the art of effective communication, the ability of conflict resolution, the trait of self-acceptance and the zel of persistent motivation to implement these changes in my life.
Every positive change requires the need to apply effective communication techniques with different types of people (Hamilton, 134). The art of effective Communication enables us in expressing ourselves to others (our feelings, emotions, suggestions and concerns) and in listening to other’s opinion and concerns, thus creating a mutual understanding both at work and in personal life. It can be deduced that effective communication is a key factor, mandatory for building positive relationships at work, social gatherings and home.
In my personal evolution context, this art needs to be imbibed and excelled at, so as to add it positive impact in my career as a Nurse, which involves detailed interactions with patients and team members. For me, communication is a key postulate of medical services as it ensures both, delivering coveted encouragement to patients to express their problems and providing the adequate feedback which must suffice their expectation from nursing team. In workplace realms, effective communication acknowledges better teamwork, enhances the ease of conflict resolution and enables easy handling personal issues like airing one’s concerns (in case one feels uncomfortable or stressed about some issues).
Listening is another categorical aspect of communication which I wish to excel at, as it always ensures better perception, explanatory response and proficient reviews to others for their opinions. Coupled with above, is an urge to perceive the variation across ethnic diversity and behavioral changes in people , as incorporating this will not only ameliorate my understanding about people but also ward off chances of miscommunication and conflict situations.
The second facet that I wish to elicit (for my objectives of personal growth and enhanced productivity at work) is learning how to resolve the personal and workplace conflicts. As Reece (301) points out, conflict resolution techniques is an essential tool that people should utilize in finding solutions resolving personal and work related stress, thus bringing a favorable balance between the two aspects. The relevance of above statement is evident in fact that without harmonizing between personal life and work, both, workplace productivity and personal relationships can be hampered to distress. However, after learning different aspects of resolving personal conflicts such as exercising, getting enough sleep and learning to let go of the things (issues that are beyond my reach), I have improved in coping up with conflict stress more effectively than I did before. This attribute is one shining trait that I wish to keep to achieve personal growth as far as future instances of work-personal life stress issues.
Apart from resolving personal and work-related stress for me, conflict resolution techniques might prove vital in building a positive relationship at workplace too. Working in a busy environment such as a health facility often results in discord among team members, on certain issues. Utilizing conflict resolution techniques such as mediation, I can help in resolving such conflicts as and when required. Further, this aspect might prove to be very handy in terms of managing intra and inter team disputes, when I will be at a managerial position.
Adding on to the above assimilations, Self-awareness is the next tool that I intend to apply in my efforts for developing personal growth and improving work productivity (thereby enhancing the achievement of the organizational goals). Self-awareness enables us to perceive our inner self in terms of our capabilities and strengths, as well as about our weakness and might. This trait is an encapsulation of gamut of activities like understanding my own self in terms of capabilities, motivation factors, and emotions, as well as understanding other people’s perceptions of me. Attaining this will enable me in harmonizing between my personal life and my career and bonding socially well with people around me. Further, although I usually acknowledge that working is an essential factor for monetary support to my family, I have realized that my family’s happiness is prior to working and this acceptance has made me to dedicate more time with my family.
Adopting above practice casts a dual impact, firstly knowing me better shuns possibilities of wrong decision making by refining judgment. Secondly, it definitely evolves strategies that might build my life in a positive way, consequent of making the right choices. Drawing a summary from above I can say that motivation to achieve a positive change is the most important aspect. Also, changing the way we perceive or do things enables in applying the knowledge acquired to do things in a distinguished way. Overall this turns into changing our personal life as well as encouraging others to change for the better, specifically at workplace.
Concluding, all my efforts to bring a positive change in life are part of a gradual process which calls for patience and a lot of practice to achieve the desired results. This course has given enough insights on how these changes have to be adopted in life and how gradually their effect my come into place. I cannot expect results to materialize instantly. As such, this course has boosted the motivation and courage to keep on trying, deploying constant practice and a belief that this gamut of changes will surely enable me to achieve the desired results in the long run.
