Starbucks has managed to encourage corporate and social responsibility through various activities according to its principles and mission statement. The principle of ‘people first, profits last’ shows the importance of the consumers over a number of sales and profits. Therefore, the main reason as to why Starbucks is concerned with social responsibility is to ensure it maintains its good reputation to the customers and stakeholders. This is by ensuring they conserve the environment by recycling, being a great employer, and enhancing great relationships with suppliers and the community.
The founder, Howard Schultz believed that a healthy working environment was the first priority in the success of the organization. The approach of ensuring that employees are treated in a way that fosters a productive relationship among the workers. Therefore, the creation of the health program under the Starbucks Company that provides resources for their wellness both physically and intellectually makes it unique (Bussing-Burk, 56). The company also ensures that their employees are covered under the health insurance program. Following Schultz’s passion for social responsibility also makes it unique as they address some of the pressing issues through the message on the coffee cups.
Starbucks has been growing rapidly both nationally and internationally because of their corporate social responsibility as well as ethical activities. The participation in social activities that help in improving the environment as well as the wellness of the consumers makes it improve its reputation. Many believe that the best coffee is offered at Starbucks due to the quality and the customer service provided. The social participation also helps it expand such as during the campaign they created known as ‘Race Together’ after the Missouri shooting. It shows how the company addresses various serious events that affected the public.
