Proposal for Criminal Justice and Policing Reform for the Charles Koch Foundation
Proposal for Criminal Justice and Policing Reform for the Charles Koch Foundation
Introduction
The world as we know it cannot exist without justice and policing bodies. This is because we are all genetically flawed to do some bad things at one time or the other, in varying intensity. Our crimes may range from over speeding, theft to some as may be as bad as causing serious harm to other people or even death. This is why since time in memorial the world has always had a justice and policing system, varying upon different locations. However, as much as these systems have been placed to help us, these same systems may end up being practiced poorly. Because these systems are important to us, we will always have them under constant scrutiny and improvement to ensure that they work as they are intended. This document proposes that we look into the pitfalls of the current justice and policing system to suggest better ways that it can be improved to serve us better.
The Charles Koch Foundation is currently running a RFP for institutions that can help streamline the current justice and policing system. This is done by offering a winning grant to the team that will be able to meet the set criterion by the Charles Koch Foundation. This grant will avail the necessary funding to do research into how the justice and policing system can be reformed and or made better and efficient.
The current system has not been very efficient in terms of their financial expenditures. There are crimes that are treated in a way that it costs tax payers more money. For example, it will be wise to more to fine some petty crimes rather than to taking people to jail for the same. This is because sometimes the crimes may not be jail worthy.
In addition, there is need to look at how different policing and justice systems affect demographic groups. Some laws were crafted while certain ethnicities were not present therefore needs a rethink.
Finally, growth in prison populations have been a recent issue for the policing and justice bodies. There is urgent need for reforms to be put to place to solve this matter.
Objectives
The Peace and justice youth foundation proposes to review the current literature for the purposes of spotting the weak areas. This review will help us understand the system better and thus we will be able to: -
Explain better the reason for the pitfalls in the current justice and policing system.
Look for ways in which some of the areas can be slightly altered to perform better.
Re-invent areas that cannot be salvaged from the current system.
Plan of action
This section represents the steps that The Peace and justice youth foundation will undertake to realize the objectives stated above. The current justice and policing system has been criticized for long because of its weaknesses such as ethnicity, huge expenditure and poor management of the prison.
Our first objective is to collect all the necessary documents relevant to the current system. This documents will be studied and areas of concerns evaluated so as to construct a baseline through which reforms can be formed.
Our second objective is to look at areas in which the current system is bleeding funds. In order for this to be possible we will have a look at their budget and expenditures.
Our third and final objective is a thorough look into the prison system. This will be made through information obtained through interviews from different parties in the justice and policing system.
Management plan
The Peace and justice youth foundation estimates that this project may run through two years to complete. This is based on the level of study that needs to be undertaken. There are many people we need to work with who will not be easy to find and will need a huge amount to pay for their services. This is just but one of the reasons why our budget for this research easily reaches $500000. However, the project may be shorter if things work as planned.
Conclusion
We cannot underestimate the importance of the Justice and Policing system in our lives. It is crucial that they work both appropriate and effectively so that they can make the society a better place. We will be glad to receive the grant to take part in this research because we like everybody else want a better world to live in.
Appendix
Progress memo
This memo describes our progress with regards to Soliciting Criminal Justice and Policing Reform Grant Proposal.
Background: The Peace and Justice Youth Foundation is contesting to be the grant winner to the Policing and reforming RFP by the Charles Koch Foundation. We are looking to be particularly helpful in coming up with better ways through which citizens can feel fairly protected through reforming the policing and justice system.
Progress to date: We have successfully managed to obtain all the original documents in the current justice system. The documents have been studied and analyzed carefully over the time period after submission of our proposal letter. This has assisted in evaluation of the current system for better understanding of its areas of weakness. This has allowed us to begin working on the formal proposal and we have since written the introduction, statement of problem, and objectives.
Work Scheduled: Half of the larger task is still ahead. This remaining pat is rather crucial as it defines the steps that will be taken in ensuring the search for a better justice system is valid. The Plan of action, the management pan and the conclusion will consume more time than the already completed section but we forecast that all will be completed in time.
Additional information: Despite obtaining majority of the documents that we need to complete the proposal, some documents have proven harder to access. We are still looking for sections of minutes that were written during the drafting of the current policing and justice system. This will help explain some of the logic used for the laws currently in place.
We look forward to submitting the proposal.

Dear Ms. Kasic:
The Peace and Justice Youth Foundation is pleased to submit its technical and cost proposals via this letter to the Charles Koch Foundation regarding the above referenced Request for Proposal. Our experience in this field has given us the opportunity to fully understand and appreciate the requirements.
Being a new foundation, we believe that we will be able to source and offer the Charles Koch foundation new insights in the pursuit of making a better country to live in. We believe that it is the right of citizens to feel safe and protected in their community. Our previous researches into related topics will also be a great addition to this research project. The approximate cost of this project is estimated to be $500,000. All the members of The Peace and Justice Youth Foundation are highly qualified.
All the requested documents as suggested by the grant criteria have been provided as attachments to this letter. We estimate a 2-year timeline for the completion of this research. If The Charles Koch foundation regards this response to be insufficient in any way, we respectfully ask to be notified and asked to correct any issues that may arise.
On behalf of The Peace and Justice Youth Foundation, I would like to thank you for this opportunity and I am looking forward to working together.
Respectfully,

Advancing Justice: The Next Steps
Clara McGrail in this article speaks of the shared concerns from many people on the importance of a better justice system. This includes aspects such as how media can easily shape opinions on criminal justice and policing reform (McGrail, 2015). The press is a key focus in this article as the author and her peers such as Conor Friedersdorf focus on what they can do to lift up community awareness on justice and policing.
In the article, many of the concerned parties feel that the press is not living up to its potential to play a proper part in justice reforms (McGrail, 2015). There is need for proper guidance of the new generation writers and bloggers so they can take active roles in fighting for a better justice system.
However, in this article, the author does not solely focus on the press. The need for communal participation is also stressed. The author is keen to mention that for justice reforms to be made the power of the people’s voice is key (McGrail, 2015). Members of the society need to diversify their involvement in the fight towards a better justice system.
